About me

Howdy, I’m Miriam! I grew up in the heart of Central Texas, in Austin. There, I had a wonderful childhood full of summertime swimming, catching scaly lizards, and camping all around the hill country.

My mom was a professional Doula in Austin for most of my life. She both led and helped found GALS and SisterDoula - two reputable agencies that work with giving reproductive assistance to marginalized communities in Central Texas. Through her example and connections, I was able to be a paid caregiver at a young age, first by watching older siblings while my mom helped with the infant(s) then eventually nannying for the entire family when I was old enough to drive. Caretaking, healing, and the importance of family are all very practiced traditions in my home; I am at my best in a career where I am able to use my empathy for others in a way that also challenges me, and utilizes my love for effective problem-solving and conscious communication.

When I became a Montessori teacher so much came together for me, and I realized that I wanted to take childcare more seriously. I went through over 40 hours of training in Dr. Bailey’s Conscious Discipline and had a year of experience in a classroom of 30 preschoolers which rigorously prepared me for all of the joyous ups and understandable downs that come with being a professional caregiver.

Combined with the experience I’ve had, I can channel my upbeat personality, love for caregiving, and communication skills into a profession that I truly love every day. I work hard to be the most positive influence I can be on the lives of every child I meet. I aim to approach every action with the children in my care from a place of love and understanding. Finally, I can kindly place firm boundaries and expectations to ensure mutually-respectful, healthy relationships, so that the kids in my care can take those skills into all of their future relationships!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am certified in ASL and love sharing sign language with children. I also love to teach all kinds of art. I have lots of experience in creating Montessori age-appropriate sensory activities. I love to spend time in nature or out and about so children can connect with their surroundings and community. With older kids, I enjoy taking them to museums, engaging in make-believe- from stories to paintings to nature sculptures and songs. Reading and crafting a personal artistic expression is especially exciting when they're older and are finding themselves.
