About me

Hello! ¡Hola! Salut! I'm Miriam!

I was born and raised in Mexico and became an American resident twelve years ago. I'm the middle child of a family of five, and I have two sisters. Since I was a child, I've always enjoyed swimming, learning languages, and being around my dogs. I've lived in Michoacán, California, and New York. I studied Law and ESL Teaching in my hometown.

I have over ten years of professional experience working with kids. I started tutoring when I was in high school, and I started teaching while in college. I've used my knowledge and skills learned working with kids, as well as personal experience, to become a nanny. I've fulfilled various roles: full-time live-in nanny, family/personal assistant, babysitter, pet sitter, housekeeper, tutor, and teacher. I have experience caring for multiple children of different ages, from toddlers to teenagers, proudly watching them grow over the years.

I have experience with morning routine, packing lunches, administering medication and going to doctors appointments, housekeeping, school drop off/pick up and transportation to activities, carpooling other kids, helping with homework and school projects, outdoor play, arts and crafts, arrange playdates, coordinate with parents, nannies, tutors and vendors; meal and snack preparation following dietary restrictions, night time routine, grocery shopping, running errands, picking up dry cleaning, gift shopping and wrapping, receiving/handing out checks, and pet sitting. I've also gained experience working with kids with ADHD. I'm comfortable around pets (I love dogs!), and I have experience caring for dogs, cats, fish, guinea pigs, and hamsters. I can swim, drive, and speak Spanish, English, and intermediate French.

I'm a hard-working and reliable person. I like to keep learning, which is why I'm currently taking a course in Early Childhood Education and a newborn care specialization.

I love teaching, speaking multiple languages, and swimming, which I find very useful in childcare. In my classrooms, I implemented activities where students could freely make creative choices in their learning as not everyone has the same type of learning, and learning from experience has a more meaningful impact on their learning process.

Having worked in a zero-screen time household, I had to create age-appropriate activities based on the children's interests and needs, nurturing their curiosity to explore the world around them, and providing guidance rather than telling them what to do, allowing them to be as independent as possible in the process. A Montessori classroom creates a match between the child’s natural interests and the available activities so that they can learn through their own experience and at their own pace. They can respond to their natural curiosities and build a solid foundation for life-long learning, which is why I believe Montessori methods match my way of working. Regardless, I'm open to aligning with the parent's philosophies.

As someone who loves teaching, I find it amusing how sometimes kids are the ones who teach us or help us realize new things that can improve our lives, and that helps us guide them during their development. This is one of the things that make me passionate about childcare.
