About me

Hi! I am Hannah McAllister. I grew up in Greenwood, IN. I have 6 half-siblings! As a child, I loved animals, singing, traveling, and reading. I am currently pursuing a B.S. in Psychology and a neuroscience minor. I am a senior with 94 credits. I continue to take classes part-time. As a nanny, I love to explore new places with families and the kids I work with. I also love to apply my knowledge of Psychology and child development to show up as the most supportive, loving, and present version of myself. I do this primarily through connection, engagement, and clear boundaries and expectations.

I began working with kids at the age of 14. I've since babysat for numerous families throughout the years from infants to age 10. I am CPR and first aid certified. Professionally, I worked at a daycare for almost 3 years. The classroom I worked in and the ages I primarily worked with were 12-24 months. Primary responsibilities included providing activities, a schedule, love, and support while the children were away from home. I assisted with diaper changes, meals, snacks, nap time, classroom organization, and lesson planning. After the daycare, I nannied for a family with 3 children. When I started there, the twin boys were 3 months old and the girl was 2. When I left, the boys were 13 months and the girl was 3. Responsibilities included everything from tummy time, physical therapy lessons, bottle-feeding, organization, diaper changes, reading, pretend play, arts and crafts, meal prep, and supporting transitional milestones. The next family I worked with was a girl, aged 1 at the start date and 2 at the end date, and a boy, aged 3 at the start date and 5 at the end date. Responsibilities included outdoor play, implementing engaging activities (such as arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, and science experiments), transportation to activities, travel with family, organization, and more.

As I am interested in Psychology, I align well with different aspects of the Montessori, Waldorf, and RIE philosophies. Primarily RIE, as I believe autonomy and independence is important at any age. I am actively learning Spanish, and love teaching kids words, phrases, and structure with the knowledge I have.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I hope to be done with my MSW program. I hope to be either pursuing a LICSW licensure, working with children and families, doing policy-related work, or still nannying. I am undecided professionally about where I want to be in 5 years, but I do hope to continue to make a difference and enjoy the work that I do. I hope I have traveled to more places. I also hope I am still enthusiastic about learning and exploring new things.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to help teach children to read. I love to teach and support fine and gross motor skills, with activities from drawing and painting, to running and hopscotch. I love to share my love of music, through singing, guitar, ukulele, piano, or simply listening. I love to help with learning about new languages and cultures. Mostly though, I love helping and supporting kids with what they are interested in and learning more about those things in the process.
