About me

I have always loved to care for others. As a child, I couldn't wait until I was old enough to be a babysitter! I started work as a mother's helper when I was twelve. Ever since, I have found myself in positions that involve working with children. I taught acting and singing to children in Guatemala and English to little monks-in-training in Nepal. I am a NYC-based actor, singer, and playwright, so, needless to say, I have a natural affinity for play! I am an adventurous, energetic spirit, always coming up with new methods of teaching, games to play, and places to explore. I love the bright, brazen way that children experience the world, without inhibition or self-consciousness.

I speak Castilian Spanish almost fluently, and would definitely feel comfortable speaking it with children. I can also teach Spanish, ESL, creative writing, acting, singing, yoga, music, and some simple crafts. In addition, I can tutor children in language arts, reading, and writing, and can provide homework and study/organizational skills assistance for elementary and middle school students. I have experience working with dietary restrictions and medical needs.

I have a tremendous capacity for empathy, and I believe that is why I connect with children so naturally. When they are joyful or excited, I can share in their joy and excitement, and when they are upset, I make sure to convey that I understand what they are feeling and why they are feeling that way. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than to have an impact on a child's life, whether it is as a nanny, a babysitter, a teacher, a tutor, a family member, or a friend. The bond that I experience with the children I care for is so much greater than any other interpersonal connection I have made in the workforce. It is truly a labor of love--and it's a blast! There are so many humorous and heartfelt moments. Nannying and babysitting are great areas of work for me as an actor, because I can pursue my artistic career in my free time, and still maintain a steady, consistent job with potential longevity of over a year.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Working as a drama therapist by day and a working artist by night. I'd like to spend my days working with at-risk youth and children with special needs, using the performing arts as a vessel for expression, connection, and healing. Outside of that, I plan to pursue a professional stage acting career.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am a huge proponent of imaginative play--dress up, playing pretend, etc. I love any sort of creative activity, especially reading and making up stories, arts and crafts, and making music. I can play basic piano and guitar, and I love sharing songs and rhymes with children. Additionally, I am an advanced Spanish speaker, and have experience with Spanish children's music and literature. In my volunteer work with the Miracle Project in NYC, I was particularly focused on helping children with autism express their emotions in a constructive manner--I think these skills extend to all kids (and adults!), and I'm interested in exploring them more deeply with the children I care for.
