About me

I grew up just outside of Boston. From an early age, my parents put me into several activities to see what stuck, and I quickly discovered a passion for arts which continued into college, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Theater at Saint Michael’s College. Even now, in New York, I find ways to embed creativity into my daily life with drawing, crocheting, photography, and more.

But, my first love has always been childcare. At 12 years old, I took my first First Aid and CPR classes and cared for toddlers each day of the summer. My responsibilities grew as I did in babysitting positions throughout middle and high school. In my sophomore year of college, I cared for 6-year-old twins with autism after school, managing their meals, school assignments, self-care, and bedtime routines. Upon graduation, I worked full-time as a nanny for 6-month-old twins and since moving to New York, I worked in two different nanny shares with children who, at the onset, were under 5 months old. In all of my full-time work, my responsibilities included maintaining a schedule, meal prep, feeding and bathing routines, maintaining a clean living area, bottle sterilization, and developing enriching activities. It’s important to me to cultivate opportunities for healthy childhood development, so I coordinated playdates and day trips, sought out classes, potty trained, and managed behavioral and discipline reinforcements—all while maintaining strong communication with multiple sets of parents. Between the COVID-19 pandemic and cross-country moves, I helped the children navigate their ever-changing world in a safe, age-appropriate way.

The foundation of all my childcare work is simple: children are unique, individual people who are deserving of respect. By treating them with the care and dignity they deserve, I hope to help them be kind, empathetic, strong, confident, and intelligent contributors to our world. They have so much to say and do, and it is an honor to help them on their way. If you would like to learn more about me and my philosophies you can check out my website www.NannyJenn.com

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In 5 years I hope to have a strong foundation working with a family long-term. I also hope to have strengthened my childcare skills even more and continued to learn more about respectful/gentle parenting and the most effective ways to raise emotionally intelligent and well-adjusted children. I also hope to have a strong personal life that matches the stability, creativity, and passion that is flourishing in my professional life. Above all else, I hope to be happy and healthy. I believe that no matter the context or circumstances in life, which are unpredictable and often beyond our control, the most important thing is to strive to be happy and healthy and to cultivate good relationships with those that matter most.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I think that teaching early communication skills to children is very important. Over the years I have taught myself many basic ASL signs to facilitate this early communication and have found it to be an incredibly effective tool. Children want to be understood and giving them early tools to do so is very important. I also value independence and responsibility even in young toddlers. I teach them how to care for themselves and the world in age-appropriate ways, from helping tidy up and with food preparation to choosing kindness and talking about and validating their feelings big and small so that they may communicate better with peers and adults as they age. Additionally, some of my favorite activities to start with the younger toddlers and children that I care for are sensory play and art projects. I have a Pinterest board that I am regularly updating with ideas and activities that are fun and engaging. Also, as a result of being put into several sports as a child and having a basic knowledge of many of them. I like to follow a child's lead and encourage them in what they are drawn to and then learn what I can about it to guide them in their passions.
