About me

I grew up with 3 siblings, all boys! I am the youngest of 4. So it is safe to say I grew up pretty athletic and into sports. I have always enjoyed being active. When I attended college, I majored in Forensics Science. I did not graduate, but when I do eventually return to school, I'd like to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. Now, I'll always hold science near and dear to my heart, but throughout the years I have realized being around kids is when I am most comfortable and happiest. I am fortunate enough to have found joy in a profession I take seriously.
I have worked with kids for about 7 years now. I have always had a knack for taking care of kids. In the last 7 years, I have gained experience working with kids of practically all ages, from newborn to junior high school. The first family I worked with, the kids were 7 and 9. I would pick them up from school, take them to their activities, prepare snacks and dinner, and do their nighttime routine. I worked with a toddler for my next family. I'd also take the child to their activities and prepare his dinners. Each day with him, the parents and I would play it by ear to see what he would like to do. The mom had given birth to her second child while working with her, so I would help out also with the newborn. We would just swap depending on what she would have wanted for the day. The next family I worked with, the kids were 9 and 11. Finally being able to work with preteens was a great learning experience and we got along well. With my most recent family, I started with them when the child was 2. She is now 4 years old. I have known her for more than half her life which is heartwarming to think about. I would do the pickup routine with her and we would decide together what after-school activities she wants to do.
I have always wanted to create a safe space for children. The absolute most important part of this job to me, is making sure the child is comfortable and can express themselves freely. A child's creativity and imagination is a wonderful thing to experience with them.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love reading with kids. Seeing their engagement with a good book makes me feel like they are not only enjoying the book because it's fun but because they are also learning something new! Whether it's a new word or a lesson to be learned, reading is one of my favorites.
