About me

Hello! I'm Courtney and I'm from Columbus, Ohio. I'm passionate about literature and writing and I'm currently in school working to obtain an associate's degree in Psychology. My ultimate goal is to obtain a BA in Social Work with a minor in Creative Writing. My main goal career-wise is to become a school social worker where I want to help kids with their social-emotional/developmental needs in and outside the classroom.

I am the middle child out of 4 and two of my siblings are much younger than I am. I loved to help take care of my siblings, which helped stem my love for childcare. Growing up I was fascinated with imaginative play, and I would dress up and act out different characters. However, I was not afraid of playing in the dirt. I loved outdoor activities such as climbing trees, riding my bike, jumping rope, and swimming. I babysat in high school and became a nanny for 3 children ages 4, 6, and 9. My duties included school pick-up, taking them to extracurricular activities, providing snacks, homework help, and establishing a bedtime routine. When I moved to Boston, I worked as a Direct Care Counselor for a classroom ages 9-13 for students in foster care and children who had developmental disabilities. I worked alongside clinical workers and other teachers where I implemented a curriculum structure while providing children with support and resources to maintain their own emotional baseline levels. I have worked as an assistant teacher for 15 children who were aged 2-4. I ran circle and reading time, implemented arts and crafts, and took them to the playground daily. I currently babysit a 3-year-old girl, and I go in whenever the family needs me. I have even done overnights when they had an emergency.

Building relationships with children is important to me as I believe children's development stems from being able to trust all their caregivers. Children are human beings who deserve love, respect, and nurturing, and that's what I aim to provide. I want children to feel safe exploring their feelings, knowledge, and emotions with me. Early intervention and consistent nurturing are imperative for children to feel confident in themselves and the world around them.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Graduated from college with a BA in Social Work and enrolled in a master's degree program in Social Work! I also want to be happy and healthy.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to incorporate my love for reading and writing into my childcare. Whether that be helping children recognize words in everyday life, or helping them come up with a collaborative story for us to work on together! I want to always take into account what interests each individual child has and let them lead the way to make sure learning is fun for them!
