About me
Hello! I'm Courtney and I'm from Columbus, Ohio. I'm passionate about literature, writing and childcare. I love to use my love for reading and writing to create a fun learning environment for children! I'm currently in school working to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing. My ultimate goal is get a masters degree in Library and Information Science. My main goal career-wise is to become a school librarian where I want to help kids elevate their confidence in their reading and writing skills!
I am the middle child out of 4 and two of my siblings are much younger than I am. I loved to help take care of my siblings, which helped stem my love for childcare. I babysat in high school and became a nanny for 3 children ages 4, 6, and 9. My duties included school pick-up, taking them to extracurricular activities and providing homework help. When I moved to Boston, I worked as a Direct Care Counselor for students ages 9-13 in foster care and children who had developmental disabilities. I worked alongside clinical workers and other teachers to implement a curriculum structure while providing children with support and resources to maintain their own emotional baseline levels. I worked as an assistant teacher for a classroom of children ages 2-4. I ran story time, orchestrated arts and crafts, and walked them to the playground daily. I currently am an assistant teacher at a preschool in NYC working with two-year-old children. My co-teachers and I instill a Reggio inspired learning environment. This child-led curriculum allows the children to feel seen as their interests are being directly taken into account during every lesson plan. The balance of structure and free-play in the classroom inspires more learning and curiosity for our students!
Building relationships with children is important as I believe children's development stems from being able to trust all their caregivers. Children are human beings who deserve love, respect, and nurturing. I want children to feel safe exploring their feelings, inquiries, and emotions with me. Early intervention and consistent nurturing are imperative for children to feel confident in themselves and the world around them.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love to incorporate my love for reading and writing into my childcare. Whether that be helping children recognize words in everyday life, or helping them come up with a collaborative story for us to work on together! I want to implement a balance of structure that feels safe for each child by taking into account what interests each individual child has to make sure learning is fun for them!
