About me

I grew up near Seattle, Washington, and have one younger sister. As kids, my sister and I frequently played outside, despite the rainy weather. For college, I went from one rainy climate to another. I have a bachelor's degree in General Social Science with an emphasis in Business, Economics, and Society from the University of Oregon. After I graduated in 2020 I worked in Bridal Sales and Management. During the pandemic, like many others, I reflected on my life. I realized my passion was teaching children. So, I began nannying to step into that role model position with the intention of going back to school to get my master's in education in the future.

During high school, I coached a girl's soccer team (14 girls ages 7-10) and ran summer soccer camps (30 girls ages 5-15). At this same time, I worked as an On-Call Nanny for a 10-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy and a seizure disorder. Duties included: practicing fine motor skills, helping with homework, and meal prep. While in college, I taught English to Chinese Students Online and I also worked as an on-call nanny during the summers. I watched an 8-year-old girl, making engagement a priority while balancing indoor and outdoor playtime. After stepping away from child-related work I returned after the pandemic with clarity for my passion. I nannied for my most recent family for 9 months, watching 3 children, one boy 10, and two girls 8 and 4, till they were 11, 9, and 5. Duties included completing morning routines, providing transportation, housekeeping, and cooking. After school, I helped with homework and once they finished we visited the park, pool & zoo. The middle daughter has Rhett's Syndrome. I administered daily medicine and attended weekly speech therapy with her in order to progress in verbal language & bridge the communication gap.

I believe in treating people how you wish to be treated. With this in mind, I treat everyone with respect and talk to kids maturely, no matter their age. As a future teacher, I love learning! I encourage learning and curiosity and will happily answer any and all questions kids may have!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In college I discovered the secret to a fulfilled life is spending time doing whatever brings me joy. Joy is different for everyone, but for me teaching and learning from kids lights me up. Because of this, in 5 years I hope to be a teacher. I want to be a teacher that is empathetic and understanding. I will be honest and communicate expectations fairly. I hope to inspire learning about not just a curriculum but also topics students are passionate about and the world we live in. Children are the future and I am up for the challenge of leading them to be their absolute best.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

There are many activities and skills I love to share with children. First, I grew up playing multiple sports and being active was a large part of my childhood. I played soccer for 10 years and dabbled in gymnastics, track, volleyball and basketball. My passion for soccer led me to help coach a girls soccer team for 3 fall seasons from 2014-2017. I enjoy myself anytime I get to participate in a sport with a child and help teach them a skill or share in their passion for it. Even if they participate in a sport I haven't tried, like tennis, I'm no Serena Williams, but I am energetic, coordinated and always happy to go outside and help kids practice whatever sport it may be. Additionally, as a future teacher, I find joy in answering questions from curious kiddos, helping with homework and encouraging learning in a non traditional setting. Some of my favorite activities I have done with kids I used to nanny for were: taking trips to the zoo, trying science experiments and taking the time to learn about topics the kids are interested in so that I can have informed conversations with them to stem further learning. Finally, I am a certified bookworm. I love reading with kids and talking about books they may be reading independently. I remember in elementary school when I started reading the Harry Potter series for the first time. I felt so mature reading these 300 page books; I felt like a full grown adult at the age of 10. Crazy what big books do to the 5th grade ego. Regardless, reading is a joy I greatly enjoy sharing with kids, no matter what they are reading.
