About me

I was born and raised in a rural town, the elder of 2 girls. As a pre-teen, I fell in love with poetry, theater, and the guitar. During high school, I traveled to Mexico and became certified in CPR while doing theater outreach at youth centers in small villages. From there, I went on to attend undergrad in Amherst, MA at Hampshire College and secured my double B.A. in Creative Writing (Poetry) and Music Composition. After college, I worked in customer service and childcare, while also teaching private guitar lessons for fun.

I spent my high school years babysitting my sister and cousins’ children and offered after-school tutoring on campus. During college, I worked in the infant room of my college’s Early Learning Center (10 infants, starting at 3 months old), and offered childcare to local families. After graduating, I held several nannying jobs with families in Oregon and New York. First, I cared for a Portland, OR family’s 2-year-old daughter; duties at this job included meal prep and feeding her twice daily while the parents worked, bathing/dressing/diaper changing educational activities, and reading/singing for her nap. Then I took on a job caring for a New York City family’s 4-year-old with similar responsibilities, though I often fed and walked the dog as well. Next, I took on a part-time role with a Portland family, caring for two children, ages 3 and 12. This position helped to flesh out my experience, bringing me back to adolescence as I offered homework help and advice to a pre-teen on the verge of high school. Throughout these working relationships, I helped around the house by tending to laundry and housekeeping.

My relationship with childcare has always been rooted in a deep appreciation for the infinite potential they have to become so much more than their roots would seem to hint is possible. My goal is to be present, helpful, positive, and tender, in hopes that the children will carry those qualities forward with them into adulthood. Together, we can all do our best to help shape the world into the kind of place where the standard is effortless love, patience, and kindness!
