About me
Born in Boston, I grew up just outside Dublin, Ireland! I am now relocating to New York. I have one brother and as kids, we loved to play make-believe together, build forts and do science experiments. I qualified as a Primary School Teacher from Dublin City University in 2018. I have been working in the education and child care fields since graduation both in Ireland and abroad.
I have over 10 years of experience babysitting in my neighborhood. I have worked with newborns all the way through to teenagers. Most recently, I worked with one baby from 1 month to 13 months. I change diapers, feed him, and do bath time and bedtime. I would also plan activities to develop sensory input and fine and gross motor skills. I have babysat on school breaks, weekends, and evenings for families with 3- 4 kids. We would usually watch movies, play board games, play make-believe games, do arts and crafts, bake and go to the park. I would generally do meal times, baths, and bedtimes in these positions.
I have worked as a mainstream classroom teacher and a substitute teacher. My area of interest is special and inclusive education and I spent the last two years working in special education in an Irish school. I have experience working with a range of needs including Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Autism, and Down Syndrome. I have also worked as an English Language Teacher, with kids and teens, both in Dublin and in Vancouver, Canada. I love teaching and would love to help with homework and tutoring! I am a very calm teacher and I have a lot of patience for learning.
I also worked as a residential Camp Counselor for a YMCA camp in Illinois in 2016. I loved this experience and learned so much about working with children with specific medical needs including diabetes. I was a qualified lifeguard when working at this camp.
I believe in child-led learning and play! I am fun and energetic but know how to handle outbursts using calm approaches and restorative practice.
