About me

Hi! My name is Maeve Campman. I grew up in Vermont and moved to New York in 2016 to attend college. I studied History and Politics at Sarah Lawrence College, where I graduated in 2020. After graduating, I had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant at a Montessori school. That experience solidified my plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Education and to work towards a career as a teacher and educator. I hope to bring my passion for art, creativity, and alternative education into my teaching practice in the future.

I have six years of experience working in childcare as a teaching assistant, tutor, student travel coordinator, babysitter, and art teacher. I am enthusiastic, and engaging, and enjoy working with children of all ages. As previously mentioned, I have experience working as a teaching assistant in a classroom with students ages 3-6. In this role I had the opportunity to help facilitate classroom dynamics, assist in lessons, and provide strong support to students throughout the year. I have also worked as a student travel coordinator for middle schoolers. In that role, I helped develop and facilitate a curriculum focused on local history, ecology, and advocacy for two summer sessions held in Castletown Vermont. I have also worked as a summer programs art teacher at an art school in Southern Vermont called the River Gallery School. In this role, I had the opportunity to teach and facilitate daily group art projects, including sculpture, painting, drawing, pastel, printmaking, and fiber arts projects. Along with this, I also have experience working as a tutor for elementary school children. The experiences I have had working with children in all these different environments have been some of the most rewarding and inspiring of my life. I hope to continue to work with and learn from children and young adults, as both a caregiver and educator.

As a caregiver, I place a central focus on creativity, respect, and growth. I am ready to assist with travel, transportation, tutoring, art projects, grocery shopping, and other household tasks. I provide consistent and unwavering support and care to the families and children I work with.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love helping kids get out into nature; whether we are building fairy houses, taking a walk, sledding, or playing soccer, I think it is both exciting and grounding for children to have the opportunity to be outside and engage with the natural world. I am also passionate about art and artmaking in all forms. I am a painter and a printmaker and I love to share these art practices and techniques with anyone who is interested. I think that people hold essentially endless artistic potential. Given the space and support, I believe that everyone is able to access great modes of expression and joy through art. I carry this belief with me in all the work that I do with children and families. In this way, I try to make art and creativity central in the support and care that I provide. I also believe that children hold a strong and intuitive understanding of their own needs as well as their relationship with the world around them. Respecting and truly listening to those needs and boundaries is essential to creating trust, confidence, and a foundation of support. Creating this strong foundation is so important because I believe that children use this foundation to build off of as they learn, grow, and change. They will carry it with them as they become the next generation of leaders and thinkers in the world. Another thing that I like share and teach is the power of choice. I believe that children thrive when given choice. Choice helps young people develop a strong sense of agency and independence. It helps kids learn to trust their own voices and understand the responsibility of decision-making in a direct and tangible way. As a caretaker, I believe that the best way to facilitate this is to provide children with a set of good choices from which they can choose. This allows children to confidently engage in choice, while also supporting safe and healthy boundaries. Throughout my time as an art teacher and teaching assistant, I have had the amazing opportunity to observe kids testing, learning, and understanding the ways in which their actions and reactions change the environment that they are in and affect their peers around them. Seeing the way that children learn and grow as they move through friendship, conflict, and group dynamics is fascinating and beautiful. Having the opportunity to not only observe but also to help guide young people through this learning process has been incredibly inspiring to me.
