About me
I'm Joselyn and I was born and raised in Queens, NY. I grew up with 3 sisters and a big nonimmediate family. As a child, I enjoyed playing sports and running around playing games. I've always liked school and gotten good grades. I graduated from high school a year early and I'm about to enter my second year of college. I'm majoring in International Studies and getting my AA at Laguardia Community College. I plan to get my BA from the City College of New York.
I grew up taking care of my younger cousins and my nephews and nieces since they were newborns. Professionally, I have been working with kids for around 6 years now. I've taken care of children ranging from 6 months-12 years. I started off taking care of my autistic cousin who's 3 years younger than me. My aunt couldn't find anybody who she trusted and who my cousin connected to besides me. The process was different than it is for other kids. I learned his routine, and was careful with situations; for activities, I would give him options and let him pick. I started working for a daycare when I was 15 years old. I would prepare meals, assist in playtime, and clean. I worked there for 2 years and in between, I got a job babysitting a 6-year-old with ADHD. My approach to her was different as well. I would prepare food however at times she wouldn't eat it so I would let her know it was just an option and she would warm up to it. If that didn't work I asked the parents if I could make an alternative, and slowly introduce her to parts of the first meal. I babysat her for 2 years until February 2022. I babysat for a family with 3 kids from January 2021 to September 2021. I would prepare snacks and entertain the kids. With the infant, I would change diapers, and feed and put the baby to bed. I tutored/babysat a 9-year-old for the 2021-2022 school year. I would help him with math and science, instill good hobbies, and do light housework.
In my free time, I like to relax, however, I still like being active. Whether it be playing sports or going biking, just something adventurous. I believe there's a lot to learn about the world and kids are proof. Seeing them acquire new skills and learn about the world is inspiring.
