About me

I grew up in Washington, D.C. as the oldest sibling. I was always a curious and independent child, asking questions about how the world worked. That led me to study Sociology in college, where I focused on studying society’s relationship with media and culture. Over the course of my life, I developed a strong desire to make positive change in the world through storytelling, I interned in the U.S. House of Representatives and Warner Brothers Television Group. Currently, I am in a writing group working on a pilot for a television show.

Ever since I was thirteen, I’ve sought opportunities to work with children. I volunteered in an after-school program looking after nursery-age kids. I spent summers as a summer counselor and taught swimming lessons to kids aged 3 to 11.

After graduating in 2020 with the pandemic, I was living at home helping take care of my father while he went through cancer treatment. I found a group of parents who had podded their kids together. For an entire school year, I helped facilitate their zoom classes, and organize lunch and activities such as baking and storytelling games in their free time.

After the school year ended, I wanted to do something adventurous, so I applied to work at a therapeutic wilderness program working specifically with Trans and Queer youth in mental health crises. I worked 8-day shifts in the woods backpacking with a group of 3 to 7 students aged 13-17 teaching wilderness survival skills. I also learned a behavioral pattern framework. I watched these students completely transform their lives in 2 months. It taught me that boundaries when provided from a place of trust, help kids feel safe to explore their potential.

Being around children is a gift. My goal when working with children is to always treat them as people worthy of conversation rather than speaking down to them. I want to partner with parents to help set healthy boundaries so that children have the ability to thrive. In my experience, children flourish best when they understand the pasture they can roam in and feel safe to ask questions and be bold.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to pursue higher education. I want to be writing, maybe for a TV show or working on a book, but also would enjoy just writing for myself. Being in a writer's room for a TV show is a dream. But in the meantime, I want to find a way to continue to work with people and help them thrive, whether that's in the mental health or education fields I'm not sure yet.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I enjoy baking with children. There's a joy in the process of baking, the measuring of things which they always enjoy. The argument over who gets to crack the egg. There's plenty of opportunities to add some math learning into it. I also love to go for walks outside, bringing an wildlife guide to a park and seeing if we can find the names of what we're seeing. I love to make up games and stories with kids and foster the innate curiosity and imagination that children have. When it's possible, it's great being able to teach kids to swim, especially in the summer. It's so rewarding watching a kid go from being a bit scared of the water to begging to stay in the pool longer. But ultimately I'm also always curious to hear what kids want to be learning about and doing, because even if I don't know how to do it, I will enjoy learning it with them.
