About me
I am active/sporty and university educated. I grew up on an island in the Caribbean called Grenada. I am the second born of nine children. In the Caribbean, the oldest children usually have a lot of responsibilities which include taking care of their younger siblings. Even in most recent years, I have taken care of my nieces and nephews. My father owns a radio station and I've worked for him in many different capacities for most of my life even while attending school. I graduated high school at age 15, accomplished an Associate's Degree at age 18, a Level II Certificate in Construction Technology at age 21, worked with a design company and my father for a year then went on to achieve my Bachelor's Degree in International Business at age 28. I continued to work for my father and then started my Masters's Degree in business marketing. I only completed a year of study and had to stop due to financial restraints.
I got into child care only after I was doing Home Health Aid with very senior seniors. I started babysitting because I traveled a lot and wanted short-term employment that paid okay. I knew I was great with children and since I had all this experience with my own siblings, I thought I'd make a great sitter. Once I started sitting though I proved to be really adept at caring for and bonding with children. I loved being with them and doing activities with them. And since I have not been able to have any children of my own, I live vicariously through my work.
At the moment I am working on self-improvement so that I can be a better nanny and an asset in multiple capacities. I am currently learning Spanish, I work out often and I keep up to date with my CPR Training. In the fall I will be starting a personal training course and then a real estate course in January. In two years I plan to start my teacher certification programs. I drive really well - I've had a license for 16yrs - and have experience driving children, I can swim well enough and can supervise kids in the water. I am also a sportswoman and can participate/train with the children. I've traveled often and I actually enjoy experiencing new places.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Special Needs
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Teaching high schoolers, personal training part time and investing in real estate.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
Daily living activities such as getting dressed on their own, getting undressed, toilet training and cleaning up after themselves. My goal is always to groom capable and independent individuals. It's also important to me that they learn their alphabet, counting, addition and subtraction with small numbers, popular phrases, proper sentence construction and a little thing called manners. I also enjoy teaching to ride scooters & bikes, to play different sports and how to carefully walk the street.
