About me
Hello Parents, I am Tabatha I grew up in the island of Saint Lucia. I was the oldest of 2 siblings. I enjoy being outdoors, reading, music, sampling new food, cooking, traveling, spending time with my family, and anything fun and interesting. From an early age, I was involved in performing arts. Despite that, I was still very shy so I then challenged myself after graduating high school that I would part take in a new field to work on my confidence. I joined a modeling agency which led me to numerous opportunities including The Miss Saint Lucia World, a pageant for the selection of a contestant for the Miss World Pageant. I ventured into the work world after completing my Associate's Degree in Business Administration. I was the personal assistant for the Superintendent of Crime in the Police Department of my country for a year then became a mom of my now 15-year-old. Was a stay-at-home mom where I acquired all the skills I possess today of course with the guidance of my mother. When my daughter was of school age I then went on to work as an Office Assistant for a prestigious Law Firm again in my country after which I was promoted to filing manager.
In search of greater opportunities, I then moved to the US and started my journey as a live-in nanny to assist a friend. With that being said I developed a love for caring for the young ones which has led me to spend my years as a nanny/ babysitting with the most amazing families and adorable kids. As a mom, I understand the challenges we face, and I have devoted myself to helping out in whichever way I can.
I have worked with kids from the ages of 6 weeks to 13 years old. I enjoy every development stage and pride myself on caring for them as I do for my own.
Working in hand with the parents helps us determine a routine, learning, healthy environment for the child which makes smooth and fun sailing thereon after. I have experience with meal preps, bottle making, packaging, storage and using of mother's milk, diaper changing, diaper rash prevention, and baby first foods.
I am comfortable with holding a newborn feeding them, tummy time, crawling, and walking. My peaceful energy enables me to place the little ones to sleep peacefully. When awake I enjoy engaging them by reading and singing, playing with sensory toys, and teaching them different sounds to encourage first words. I have had the opportunity to work with the gym instructors and swim instructors to continue strengthening the skills taught during a session.
As the most tender age of 0 to 5 is the most important age of a child's life this is the stage I enjoy most, I enjoy watching their personality develop and I get to contribute by lots of reading and learning of colors, animals, counting, alphabets, dinosaurs, shapes, new words and sight objects outdoors, arts and craft. I also speak creole, and have a diploma in French and Spanish which enables me to teach the young ones new vocabulary of another language which is always fun and impressive on the parents to who admire their use of the language. I am a fun, loving, and humble individual who loves what I do on a daily basis with children. My job is to create a fun, safe, and learning environment that in turn put parents' minds at peace.
One of the skills I acquired through working with a family I met by a referral was caring for multiples at once. I worked alongside another family, and on a daily basis had 3 kids, one preschool-aged boy, and 2 girls 8 months old. My responsibilities included organizing classes, trips to the zoo, park, picnics, playdates, splash pad, and playground.
I also prepared healthy meal preps and snacks. Both families took a different approach to healthy eating which was a new experience for me and with my love for cooking I took in all the learning of new techniques there were to offer. I had to use my skills in time management to organize pick up and drop off during activities. Engaging the toddlers and getting them used to 2 different home settings due to parents working from home from time to time was another skill I had to master. As difficult as it was to promote naps in a new environment, I was able to accomplish success on most days. I felt at ease caring for a little one who was not well and put moms' minds at peace knowing that I would be able to administer medication with the right dosage and time with lots of love. They were more than happy that their little ones were well taken care of. I provided a fun, safe, and learning environment for children in my care. This job was similar to caring for twins and helped me develop my skills of providing care for multiple kids at once as a nanny.
I have had the opportunity to be a house manager, part-time sitter, date night, and after school sitter, during covid I became a “teacher”, who taught my 4-year-old whom I took care of at the time from a syllabus provided by her school. I am proud to say her parents were astonished to see how much her hand penmanship had improved in a matter of 2 days. With a recent visit was happy to learn that she reads chapter books at age 6 and thanked me for our fun days at the library and for reading her lots of wonderful stories which now she in turn reads to me.
With so many memories and experiences, I have gathered in the past 10 years to fill in the shoes of many roles I am more than grateful to the families who have entrusted the life of their precious ones to my care. I took every day with gratitude knowing that I helped shape the future of a child who will one day make a difference in today's world. I showed them love and kindness, taught them manners make wonderful human beings, the importance of self-care, reading is one's way of self-development, numbers and math will always be part of your life in everything you do. Caring is sharing is a quote we always use while having fun with friends. We use arts and crafts to share out appreciation to parents and even capture fond moments to remember in the future or brighten mommy and daddy’s day even that of grandparents. I have shared those moments with some awesome grandparents whom I loved being around and involved in such an experience.
With this, I will leave an inspirational piece that resonates with me because as nannies we assume the role of parents and are equally accountable for the development of the young...
"If there is one thing developmental psychologists have learned over the years, it is that parents don’t have to be brilliant psychologists to succeed. They don’t have to be supremely gifted teachers. Most of the stuff parents do with flashcards and special drills and tutorials to hone their kids into perfect achievement machines doesn’t have any effect at all. Instead, parents just have to be good enough. They have to provide their kids with stable and predictable rhythms. They need to be able to fall in tune with their kids’ needs, combining warmth and discipline. They need to establish secure emotional bonds that kids can fall back upon in the face of stress. They need to be there to provide living examples of how to cope with the problems of the world so that their children can develop unconscious models in their heads.”
