About me

I grew up in Wenatchee, Washington. I am a twin and we are the oldest of eight children. As a child, I did everything with my twin sister. We loved to sing, play the piano, participate in various sports and clubs, and camp with our family. I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Fitness at Pacific Lutheran University. After graduation, I spent three years as an ESL teacher in South Korea. During that time, I decided that I wanted to pursue music again. I moved to NYC in 2015 and attended Manhattan School of Music (2016-2018), where I received my Master of Music degree in Opera Performance. I have supplemented my income with babysitting during the six and half years that I have been living here. I moved to Florida for a brief time to work with Sarasota Opera during 2019 to 2020. When the pandemic hit, I transitioned back to the city and have been helping various families since returning.

Growing up as one of eight children, I helped raise my younger siblings. My twin sister and I began babysitting for our neighbors and family friends when we were 12. This continued throughout middle and high school. During college, I worked as an activities coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club. I also spent one summer as a day camp counselor for the YMCA and another as a lifeguard for a water park. From 2012 tp 2015, I taught ESL in South Korea. During this time I held several contracts that included teaching kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students. I was also a private tutor for many of my students during those three years. When I transitioned d to NYC in 2015, I began helping two families whom I was connected with prior to moving. Their children were between 2 to 6 when I began and are now 8 to 12. One family has two young boys and the other two girls. Over the years, duties have varied as the kids have aged. These have included changing diapers, providing entertainment, helping with naps, meal prepping, coordinating playdates and appointments, picking them up from school, homework help, and assistance with piano practice. As both of these were part-time positions, I eventually began working with Bell Family Company and Hello Sitter. These companies connected me with a multitude of families who needed a part-time and/or date night babysitter. After returning from Sarasota Opera, when the pandemic began, I began consistently helping two families with after-school care. I assisted both of these families for several years prior to covid. One family has a son who is 9 and a daughter who is 7 years old. The other family is the same one that I began in 2015. Their two girls are 8 and 12 years old. My duties for both include school pickup, homework assistance, meal prepping, scheduling and attending appointments and sports practices, coordinating playdates, and assisting with bedtime.

At this point in my life, I have chosen to not yet have any children of my own. I have always loved spending time with kids and working with them provides that fulfillment. I love the quote, "it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." I resonate with this statement made by Frederick Douglas. I believe that our childhoods shape us into the adult members of society that we become and that it is essential to be surrounded by positive role models during our formative years. I aspire to be a dynamic role model for each of the lives that I touch through childcare.
