About me

Hi! My name is Erica and I am an artist, musician, and early childhood educator/caregiver based in New York City. I grew up in the Hudson Valley in upstate New York, in a nurturing creative environment where I loved to play outside and make paintings. I have one brother who is also a musician. As children, we wrote songs together - and still do today. I just completed my Masters of Fine Arts degree at Columbia University School of the Arts, and 2019 I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture graduating with honors from the Rhode Island School of Design. I have also taken classes at Brown University and completed graduate-level courses from the Department of Teaching and Learning Art and Design at RISD where I learned about art education practices.

My work as a sculptor is rooted in community activism and the promotion of diversity and individual self-expression: values that I use as my guiding principles as an educator and caregiver. I began babysitting and working with children in my early teens, I have worked as a camp counselor on a farm, and I am also an experienced early childhood educator. Prior to grad school I was a smart sitter for a family of two boys and found it to be a truly inspiring and rewarding experience. I have also worked as a co-teacher at a preschool in Park Slope Brooklyn, where I taught a class of four-year-old children. I also have experience substitute teaching for children in a two and three-year-old day care program, and a k-5th elementary school. Outside of working in schools, I am also a private art tutor with students of a variety of age ranges and skillsets.

I feel comfortable and confident navigating through the city. I am very familiar with public transit and I also have a driver's license. In addition to being an artist I am also a musician, I enjoy reading and writing, I am a competent cook and baker, but also have extensive food allergies so am very sensitive and thoughtful with people who have dietary restrictions. I take pride in my patience, ability to follow directions and listening skills. I am also very clean and tidy, compassionate, organized, and communicative.

I love to make art and music with the children that I work with. As an educator and practicing artist I always encourage the children that I work with to partake in creative activities to help them express and empower their bodies and minds.
