About me
I grew up in Queens as an only child with many younger relatives. As I got older I became interested in literature, and I graduated from Hunter College in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in arts. Since graduating, I’ve been sporadically working in childcare and tutoring English at a college level. This entails reading theoretical/literary works and assisting both with interpreting main ideas and themes and writing papers with appropriate grammar and sentence structure. Not only does this help keep my mind active, but it also allows me to help children that I work with learn the same skills.
I’ve worked with children for much of my life, starting informally with friends of my family. I began tutoring English while in high school. I've worked part-time with kids ages 2-12, and assisted them with things like homework, meals, and snacks, engaging and stimulating play activities, and ensuring they arrive at extracurriculars on time. With kids ages 2-6, I was mostly concerned with appropriate play activities that would help them interact with the world around them and practice with concepts like colors, numbers, shapes, and basic vocabulary skills or sentence building. With kids ages 7-12, I prioritize helping with homework and making sure they understand their work fully, as well as helping with their time management and organizational skills. My schedule is flexible; I’ve worked evenings, mornings, weekends, etc. as needed. I’ve also occasionally worked with two children at once.
I enjoy reading, writing, and going for long walks or bike rides. I enjoy enriching my education however I can, and in childcare, I hope to impart this same passion for knowledge. I believe childhood is defined by curiosity and a boundless quest for new information. Teaching kids how to ask questions, engage, and interact with the world is important for development, and can be done with reading, writing, playing games, or simply taking children out into their own communities. Introducing them to new environments and hobbies is important to me, as it gives them a diverse pool of information to get familiar with, giving them a more accurate view of the world and diversifying the relationships they have.
