About me

As the eldest sibling and cousin, the beginning of my "babysitting" experience is negotiable. I am from Baltimore with two younger siblings, one of whom is on the Autism spectrum. Growing up as the sister of someone with special needs was a privledge, it gave me the patience and understanding to relate to so many children, and adults, with neurological differences. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University in 2018 with a degree in Musical Theatre, and had the opportunity to use my performance background to live and work in lots of cities, and even on cruise ships.
I have been a professional nanny for over 5 years, and have cared for children ages 1 through 15. With several families, I have transitioned from date-night sitter to full time childcare, and I've kept in touch with the majority of those I've worked with- they always have a trusted sitter. In August of 2020, I took a position as a full-time (40+ hours) nanny for two children, ages 6 and 11. My primary responsibilty was to supervise their online schooling, specifically the younger child as he needed me to guide him through everything. When they were not in class, we would ride bikes or bring a soccer ball to the park, or indoor crafts and baking. Soon after moving to NYC, I took another full-time position with children ages 6 and 9, again supervising online school, but also preparing meals, homework help, and after school/extracurricular pickup. I also babysit several of their classmates by reccomendation of the parents, and they always ask for me again! With SmartSitting, I have held both long-term and short-term positions working with children of all ages- especially families that require extra attention.
I believe that children are smarter than us, and when we really listen to them we learn the most about ourselves. Spending time with them makes me laugh louder, feel harder, and love with more patience. Some of my best memories were with babysitters whom I admired, and I want that to be true with every child.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Happy! I have both personal and professional goals over the next few years, but my first hope is always to be happy.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to bake with the children. There are so many skills required for baking, the child has to read and comprehend directions, work basic math and fractions, PATIENCE. And at the end of the process, they get to use their fullest imaginations to decorate the goodies and their empty bellies to recieve them. Every once in a while, I get to teach yoga to the children, usually in the form of breathing exercises or calming stretches. Pranayama (concious breath) is an amazing mindfulness skill, and it's a tool they can pull out in any situation.
