About me

I began working with children as a director and teaching artist.I have worked in educational theater for over 10 years directing and teaching students from secondary school through the collegiate level. I am also a certified Access Educator specializing in making the arts accessible to students with physical and mental disabilities. I spent three years as a teaching artist in Washington DC, teaching playwriting, acting, directing and musical theater to students elementary school through high school.

When moving to New York City in 2013, I began working with children outside of the classroom, as a nanny and babysitter. I realized very quickly that my values as a teaching artist and director translated flawlessly into childcare in the home. I believe in making every moment an opportunity to use our imaginations, from walking home from school, to traveling through the city, to bath time, to dinner time. I am confident that treating children with respect will create an environment that keeps both child and care taker accountable for their actions. I think every obstacle or hard moment can be spun into an adventure. I am not afraid to set boundaries, guidelines and structure. Most importantly, I think that fun and play are at the heart of every moment.

Frankly, I'm a big kid who chose to play make believe for a living, so when I have the opportunity to be inspired by the adventurous imagination of a child I am constantly inspired to tell more stories. Really, it's a win win situation.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I hope to be working steadily in my field as well as with children and the arts in some capacity. I'd like to be living in New York city, enjoying the adventures it has to offer and the art it inspires.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to do seasonal crafts and cooking. I also enjoy taking a short story or building a short story together and creating a play based on our teamwork. We develop all aspects of the project, including costumes, sound (instruments) and our own scenery. I really enjoy teaching interactive and imaginative games and making up our own make believe worlds.
