About me
I was born and raised in Barbados, a tropical beautiful island in the Caribbean. Growing up I was an adventurous, outdoorsy child who loved spending time in nature, in a good book or in the kitchen baking. When I became a teenager I started travelling to New York city to visit my grandmother who lived here. It was then that I fell in love with this busy, diverse and captivating city. Ever since I was a child I have been spending my vacations in NYC and spending the remainder of the year studying in school. This duality of an easy going island life versus the exciting ever-stimulating city life continued up until I was an adult and decided to move to NYC permanently.
I got most of my education in Barbados, as an avid reader I decided to study English Literature with hopes of teaching at a secondary level. I was successful in gaining my bachelor's in Arts degree from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus and two teacher roles. After encountering several students with severe learning deficits, I decided to pursue a post-graduate diploma in special education. I then went to Erdiston Teachers' Training College to better meet the needs of the students in my classroom.
My professional work experience spans between babysitting, nanny and teacher roles. I worked as nanny for a lovely family in Barbados. In that role I took care of a new born baby boy who just a few weeks old up until he was three years old. Initially this was a daunting role for me because he was so tiny and precious but his mother was around and helped when necessary. In this role I assisted with baths, bottle feedings, diaper changing, and age appropriate activities.
In New York I had the privilege of working with a few families on an as needed basis. In specific I have worked with a foster mother of three. In that specific role I was responsible for meal preparations, baths, homework help, indoor developmental activities, and outdoor activities. We often would play character animation games inside or go to the nearest park to get some good exercise in.
In another NYC babysitting role, I was mainly responsible for a taking a child to and from her activities as well as assisting her with Home-work help. Occasionally I did on-call babysitting for her when her mom had to work long hours. I also had the responsibility of working with a special needs boy, this role has made me more compassionate and mindful of mental health struggles.
Altogether I have found my varying child care roles to be very gratifying. Having the ability to shape small minds and establish lifelong habits, such as manners and organizational skills is an honor. My aim is to impart as much kindness and love to kids in my care so they can ultimately succeed as adults.
