About me

I was born in Long Valley, New Jersey, a suburb of NYC in Morris County. A cornerstone of my childhood was the Girl Scouts of America; I joined in kindergarten as a “Daisy” and maintained my membership through high school graduation. Through the Girl Scouts, I completed babysitting training and began my first part-time job working for local families as an afternoon and weekend sitter. Upon high school graduation, I had also completed my Girl Scout Gold Award by collecting and sorting 4,000+ books for a local elementary school that could not afford any for their special education department. I then attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, earning my bachelor’s degree in Design & Merchandising. Since graduation, I have lived and worked in NYC. My first two positions were in corporate offices which prepared me for my current role as a small business owner selling vintage clothing.

While building my business, I have worked for two families in NYC. I was with my first family for over a year, starting when their son was 7 weeks and ending when he was 16 months. After they relocated to New Jersey, I began working with my second family, starting when their son was 5 months and ending when he was 17 months (due to the pandemic). I have been CPR certified since beginning my first role and have renewed the certification as needed. Responsibilities for both positions included sleep training, light meal prep, doctors’ appointments, bath time, and bedtime. Our activities consisted of playtime, local toddler classes, and visits to the library and parks.

Working in childcare has given me both the opportunity and flexibility to pursue my goal of running my own business. The ethos of my shop is “to provide quality secondhand pieces at accessible prices, with an emphasis on how our objects can educate, influence, and represent us.” I believe this student mindset is necessary in every endeavor by always maintaining a level of curiosity and wonder. In no other role has this been more apparent; to see the world through a child’s eyes has been the most rewarding aspect of childcare for me.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Managing my vintage shop full-time. I hope to scale my business by expanding beyond secondhand pieces into the production of upcycled garments and accessories.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Reading and cooking! When I'm not managing my business, I spend the rest of my time reading articles online and books from ThriftBooks.com or trying new restaurants and recreating the recipes at home (hopefully for the better!). I love sharing these activities with children because I believe these hobbies can be built upon and maintained throughout the stages of life. Additionally, they can teach us other valuable skills such as language skills with reading and social skills with cooking.
