About me

I was born and raised in Louisiana with my brother. We were very close in age so we went through many challenges together. When I graduated from high school, I went to Louisiana State University (Geaux Tigers!) where I finished my degree (first in my family!) with a Bachelor of General Studies with concentrations in Business Administration and Economics. I always had a desire to work with children though. After a few years of working in a few office 9-5 jobs, I decided to pack up my things and move to Turkey to find a job teaching English as a foreign language. After a brief stint in Istanbul, I moved back to the United States. In August of 2011, I moved to New York. When I arrived I decided that I would once and for all begin working with children and I became an after-school babysitter. What I quickly learned was that I had been right and this was the job for me.

I began babysitting around 26 years ago when I was 14. My first babysitting gig was for my older cousin's two children and I loved it. When I was 16, another cousin of mine had a child and I spent all of my weekends helping with her baby. When I went to college I made it a point to come back every weekend or every other weekend and I would babysit when my cousin had to work or needed time for herself. While I stepped away for a while I never forgot the enjoyment I got from those early times and my childhood dream of being a teacher. Since moving to New York and pursuing childcare I have worked with 9 children. I have assisted with potty training and binky weaning. I have helped teach kids math from the very first numbers to algebra. I have had my position shift from the after-school babysitter, to full-time nanny, to household assistant where I handle basically all aspects of the household.

I love working with kids. I always say it keeps me young. Kids have a way of doing that. They ask questions that keep your brain thinking. They have a wonder that makes you love the holidays all over again. It allows me to look outside of my adult eyes and see the wonder and excitement that children see. I'm fair but firm when necessary. I really love what I do.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Impacting children in a meaningful way both personally and professionally.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to teach children how to cook and bake. I also like to sing (poorly) and dance (again poorly). I like to joke around and talk about books we read and try to instill a love of reading. Also I'm pretty good at math!
