About me
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” The truth of this statement was impressed upon me from a very tender age and the value of education has always been underscored in my family. At first glance, one might hasten to interpret “interest” as the monetary gain that education generates. However, education can awaken empathy, broaden perspective, and provide empowerment because of its enlightening nature. No man who has been exposed to an education is ever the same. Education serves the purpose of allowing me to empower myself whilst giving back to society. I grew up on the beautiful island of Jamaica and as stated above, I migrated to the United States to attend college and be closer to my extended family. I graduated from Florida International University in Miami with a Bachelor of Science In Recreation and Sport Management with a concentration in Recreational Therapy. I then attended graduate school at Columbia where I completed a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.
I taught preschool for over eight years and I have two nephews and a niece under five who I babysit all the time. I love cooking, art, sensory, outdoor activities, and photography. I love helping children engage in fun activities especially through art. I was also a preschool teacher at United Way of Miami- Dade for children ages 3-5. An Art Specialist at Riverdale Country School during the summer teaching art activities to children ages 3-8 years. I am also CPR, AED and First Aid Certified, and COVID vaccinated.
I have been babysitting for families in the city for a very long time. My job responsibilities typically include bath time, playtime, taking to instructional activities (swimming, soccer, tutoring), mealtime, taking to the park, hair salon, museums, and playdates. Oftentimes as needed, I prepare meals and complete light house work as needed as most families I babysat for already had a cleaning service. I make sure homework is completed and the kids are showered and in bed by the time their parents are home.
Bob Marley once said, “Don’t worry about a thing because every little thing is gonna be alright.” Growing up in Jamaica was not only a memory but a gift. All I could remember was my long days sitting on the riverbank with my cousins. I would swish my feet back and forth just wondering if this moment would ever end. My friends would say, wake up! You are almost out of this place! This place was my home but to them, it was a miracle that I would be moving to the United States. Ten years later and I am a graduate of Columbia University. I believe this is my passion (caring for children), and I will work assiduously at each task that I am given.
