About me

I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts with two younger brothers, and we were always playing outside. Our neighborhood had about twenty other children, but I was the oldest, and I often rallied everyone together to build forts in the woods or dig for lost treasure. I was always very active in community theatre, so it was no surprise when I moved to Long Island to get my Bachelor of Arts in Drama at Hofstra University!

I started professionally working with kids in high school, babysitting elementary students, and working backstage at youth theatre performances. For two summers, I worked with children eight to fourteen years old at a theatre summer camp program, and my senior year I taught a musical theatre dance class for five to eight-year-olds. Once I got to college, I took a weekend job as a party princess performer, visiting the houses of birthday kids in character, to read, sing, dance, and play with them. The children could be as young as an infant, and I was often responsible for them during the entire party. I spent two college summers teaching children English in Italy through story-based camps. My age group was usually ten-year-olds, and I would be in a classroom with them all day doing games, projects, and activities. I also lived in a host family with one of the kids I would be teaching in each location. Now that I am graduated, I work as a substitute teacher in private schools with kids as young as three and as old as middle school!

I am drawn to creative children, having been one myself! I think there can always be more opportunities for children to express themselves through different mediums. Helping kids learn essential people skills and practice empathy with those around them has also been a huge mission of mine. Having taught many different subjects, I always incorporate other life lessons when I see fit, never shying away from a potential teaching moment.
