About me

Hi! I'm Raines :)

I grew up in Pennsylvania. I am the middle child and one of the eldest girls in my family. As a child, I spent the summers with my grandmother in Virginia, during these years I was taught patience, creativity and discipline. I loved to express myself through playing with baby dolls, singing, dancing and playing dress up. I come from a single parent home, so our motto is “It takes a village” and so it did. In middle and high school I began babysitting my cousins and helped to raise my younger siblings. I was more than excited to do my part and found it very rewarding.

After graduating high school, I began working as a receptionist and soon after I was offered an opportunity to study at Hanover Hall where I later graduated as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

As a CNA, my main responsibility was performing daily living activities for the elderly in our community who suffered from a range of disabilities and diseases. Later, I decided to take a break to return to childcare. In the summer of 2018, I became a camp counselor (18 Children, ages 12-13). After loving my experience during summer camp, I stayed with this community center for the Before/After- School program. My main responsibilities were to provide a safe, supportive and productive environment. During this same time I also was a part time nanny for 3 children, aged 4 months 3 and 6. I completed household chores, prepared meals, and made sure the children were meeting their developmental milestones by organizing educational activities. This family also called me over to babysit on date nights and other emergencies.

“A child's brain is like a sponge” has come to fully resonate with me. From 0 to 6 years of age children are soaking in all the information they are being fed through their senses. If we want loving, meaningful and just communities in the future, I believe we must instill these values into our little ones. This is why I have made it my goal to be a role model to every child I have the pleasure of bringing up!
