About me

I grew up an only child in one of the most diverse cities in the U.S, Clifton New Jersey. I am an only child that comes from a large family. We always had family events where there was so much going on but the one place everyone would always find me is where all the children were. Just seeing how we all came from the same upbringing but no child was exactly alike fascinated me. Growing up in Clifton I felt connected to my Latino heritage and I was exposed to many different backgrounds. Respecting others' cultural differences taught me alternative styles of parenting. I applied what I grew up seeing but I would take parts of other teachings and implement them in my babysitting as well. Nature vs Nurture has always come to mind when working with children of different backgrounds and led me to pursue a degree in psychology at Rutgers University-Newark.

My babysitting journey began before going into high school where I was a full time babysitter to two girls and one boy ages 7, 9, and 11, and continued throughout the school year where I provided before/ after school care to 3 families in my neighborhood. After graduation I met this amazing family with two boys ages 4 and 8 that I worked with for 5 years. My responsibilities were ,meal prep ,school pick ups tutoring ,incorporate Spanish, transportation, bath supervision, and bedtime prep. While on trips I would stay with the boys at their home for a few weeks out of the year. My responsibilities during overnight stays included those aforementioned as well as getting the boys up and ready, preparing breakfast/lunches ,prepare dinner ,check homework, and bedtime prep. The boys had a very busy schedule however on our down time playing was a must, from playing soccer to science experiments to crafts etc.

I am an artist and use art and play to help better understand and connect with children. Through the years I noticed that children will express their emotions through drawings and play. I think it's very important that one takes the time to observe what a child may want to express to us in other forms other than their words. Understanding children I believe will help create a better tomorrow.

In 5 years I hope to have learned all the skills I will need to begin running my own child care facility.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love engaging children in imaginative play as well as teaching them painting/drawing techniques. I focus on teaching children independence and being a guide when needed but I believe in order to improve their confidence we must let them be free to explore. I teach children to reflect on their own and notice why one of their actions may have led to a certain consequence. Balance and discipline is extremely important to me and I like to teach children that there's a time and a place .All while creating a safe place for them to be them.
