About me
Growing up, I was my family’s main source of childcare. I’d hear the sound of tiny knuckles knocking on my back door and I knew that it was time to watch the little ones. Living in New England (Brockton,Ma) gave me the chance to indulge in the deep beauty of its intense seasons with my loved ones. I would take my young nephews and cousins trips down to the Cape during Summer, out for nature walks in Fall among the colorful trees, planting and bird watching in Spring and sledding down hills of snow in Winter.
In my teen years I was a member of the Youth in Government program, Peer Mediators, Concert Choir and Drama Club. I volunteered with my community’s youth theater program, Act One Scene One. From there grew my love of human connection and passion for the arts, so I went on to become a cast member (and Office Assistant) of Shaha: The Storytellers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where I earned my BA in Theater and minor in African-American Studies.
While in college I spent a year as a weekend sitter for one 5-year-old and one 9-year-old. I taught them cultural games, dances and traditional Cape Verdean cuisine. I helped them with their homework and watched educational television with them (PBS Kids is a must). We did arts and crafts, and experimented with geology and chemistry.
One summer, I gave gentle and loving care of an infant which included: diaper changes, treating rashes, singing to the baby, preparing and feeding baby her formula, burping the baby, cooing the baby to sleep, and listening to understand all the baby’s needs.
For my whole life I have been taking care of the young ones in my family. I would: cook diverse and healthy meals, read plays/poems/bedtime stories, play educational games, introduce them to different types of music, teach them about different cultures, put on plays and talent shows with them, take them to the museum/park/pool, and facilitate dialogue between siblings through conflict. I help them foster a joy for learning and most importantly I teach them about love, care, and understanding. I plan on nurturing and preparing the next generation of leaders, I want our children to see what bright futures they have ahead.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love to sing and I'd love to share that part of my life with the children. Did you know that if you sing with someone, and take breaths at the same intervals, your heartbeats will eventually sync up?
