About me

I grew up in California with a few siblings. I have an older brother and two brothers that are 8 and 10 years younger than me. As a child, I enjoyed playing board games with my brother and spending time with my friends. I am currently 1 year away from receiving my bachelor's in geography and am excited to then work on my certification to teach English as a foreign language. I have spent so many years working with children of different ages and I am focused on providing the best care.

Throughout my childhood, I helped care for many children in a church nursery and for my younger siblings. At 15, I was a summer nanny. This way my first full-time childcare position. I was responsible for the safety and care of 3 boys ages 8, 8, and 3. This was a very formative experience as I realized the importance of providing stable care for children. I took care of meals, naps, and light cleaning. We spent time outside and enjoyed playing chess and doing some summer learning on rainy days. The 3-year-old was non-verbal and took some extra attention to make him feel comfortable and involved in the activities. In high school and college, I also babysat for many families with children of various ages. My next nanny position was in college where I cared for 2 girls for over a year. One girl was 2-4 years over my time there and for her, I was responsible for diapers, potty training, naps, and learning. We practiced such as somersaults and balance to help her feel more confident in her gymnastics classes. The other girl was 4-6 over the time I was with her. She had a difficult emotional adjustment to her mom going back to work so I had to focus on her to make her feel safe. I asked for her help in the kitchen and encouraged her to help me make a plan for the day so she could feel comfortable with the day.

My philosophy when it comes to caring for children is to let them gain a sense of independence. I believe children are capable of learning and adapting quickly and as a caretaker, my job is to support and encourage them. I think imaginative play and helping them to verbalize their ideas and feelings are so important to build confidence and their sense of worth.

In 5 years I hope to be traveling and possibly teaching English as a foreign language.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

With toddlers, I love focusing on basics such as letters and sounds as well as using their imagination to talk about animals and various things. With older kids, I love to encourage in-depth learning on subjects they are already passionate about. I am always impressed with children's abilities to use their brains at such a high level from a young age. I would love to teach basic French and ASL as well.
