About me

Hello! My name is Brenna and I grew up in eastern North Carolina! I lived there for my entire life, going to school with the same people from kindergarten to graduation. I have three sisters, one younger and two older. Our house was definitely an interesting dynamic with only my dad as the male presence! There was always music playing and we were singing and dancing and playing dress up and learning to cook and bake from my mom. I spent most of my childhood running around outside with friends and playing in the dirt. I was always obsessed with music and constantly put on concerts for my family. Growing up, my mom ran a bakery out of our home as well as an in-home daycare, which sparked my interest in childcare. From the time I was five years old I was surrounded by children. There were on any given day up to 10 kids under the age of 5 in my house. Other kids were playing video games and I was learning how to set up a play pin and change diapers - baby gates had nothing on me!
As I continued through school, I eventually moved to pursue a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in musical theatre from William Peace University and while there, continued my childcare endeavors by being a babysitter. I babysat for professors, people in the neighborhood of my school, my voice teacher, and their friends. My junior year I applied to be a summer camp counselor and did that for the next summer teaching theatre and sometimes archery which I learned while I was at the camp. I mostly worked with the 4-6 year olds as a counselor, but with all ages as an instructor. This was a sailing camp so we would take them sailing and kayaking and canoeing and camping in the woods and we had campfires and sang songs and bonded and it was just the most fun I’ve ever had. Once I graduated, I moved to New York and continued to work in childcare while auditioning.
I really value open communication between the family and myself to make our partnership run as smoothly as possible. Kids in the city are really smart and learn things like independence at a very young age, which is why I feel like it’s even more important to encourage them to play and have fun and just be kids. Being an actress, play and make believe is something I have plenty of experience in. I also have a very maternal and nurturing personality, which I got from my mom. My child care experience is quite vast, and I have worked with children from the ages of newborn to late middle school and on into high school. My typical responsibilities included: changing diapers, warming bottles, making bottles, feeding baby food, understanding the child led weaning method, facilitating nap times, potty training, prepping for and having snack times, park trips, museum trips, playtime, tummy time, engaging with children, making dinners, helping with homework, school pick up and drop off, mommy and me classes, sports practices, arts and crafts, bed time routines, bath time, and in general just keeping the children safe and cared for. I have a tiny bit of experience with children on the spectrum. I also have had First Aid and CPR training. I know some basic baby sign language (more, please, thank you, eat). I have worked with newborns, babies, toddlers, preschool age children, school age children, preteens and teenagers. And the most important thing about me is that through it all I just love working with children. It brings me such joy to help care for and mold your little humans. I believe that it really does take a village and I want to be part of that support for you!
