About me

I grew up in Hungary, the youngest of three. I was drawn to nature and animals and studied to become a veterinary technician, then got my Master's degree in Agriculture at the University of Godollo. After graduating I worked on a farm in Finland. My interest in travel and different cultures led me to Tunisia where I studied Arabic for a year and became a tour guide. I later moved to Amsterdam where I first found work as a nanny, and then to America.

In Amsterdam, I was responsible for a 6-year-old girl and her 8-year-old brother. I took the job as a means to support myself but soon discovered how much I enjoyed taking care of kids and teaching them about nature, animals, arts, and crafts. When the family relocated to Belgium, I moved to New York City where my first job was as a live-in nanny for four children ages 2, 5, 9, and 11, one of them needing constant supervision. Mornings I got the three older kids to school then took care of the 2-year-old all day, changing diapers, feeding with a bottle and later solid foods, taking him by stroller to the park and museums and toddler classes. The older kids I helped with homework, took them to appointments and playdates, museums, and parks, and traveled with the family during a vacation on a few occasions. Once I got married, I sought a live-out position and first cared for two girls ages 4 and 7, staying with them until they were 12 and 15. In my next family, I took care of two boys from ages 4 and 8 through 13 and 17. Duties in both families included after-school supervision, organizing activities, helping with homework, light housekeeping, the kids' laundry, accompanying to after-school activities and appointments, preparing menus and meals, readying for bed, and caring for the family dog.

My father died when I was young and I was raised by a loving working mother, whose busy, stressful life didn't always afford much time for her children. So, both from my own childhood and my work as a nanny, I realize how much it means for kids to have someone there for them who is enthusiastic, patient, and caring, giving them the time and space to learn all they can be, and to grow into confident, loving people.
