About me

Hello, my name is Charlotte and I'm originally from San Diego, California. I'm the youngest of four kids. I'm also a twin so, only the youngest by a few minutes but we still count it. Growing up I loved making art, reading, climbing trees with my twin brother and going to the movies.
I moved to Ohio and got a BA in Cinema Studies at Oberlin College. While I was there I started tutoring at a local elementary school and fell in love with teaching. After school, I moved to New York and have been teaching ever since.

My experience with childcare began when, as a teenager, I started babysitting for friends and family during the school year. Over the course of four years, my main clients were two families with children ages 2, 5 and 8. Responsibilities included school pickup, homework help, making snacks and putting children to sleep. Since then, my childcare experience has expanded to the classroom. I've worked as a literacy tutor and STEM after school teacher in elementary schools in Ohio and New York. This was in one on one sessions and in small groups with children of various ages ranging 5-11. One summer, I worked as a camp counselor in the city and was tasked with teaching robotics to a large group of 3 year olds. It was a challenge adapting the material but it sparked my creativity and I ended up discovering that I really connected with the early childhood age group. After that, I briefly worked at a daycare with a mixed class of children ages 1-3 before landing in an infant classroom at a Montessori preschool. After coming back to work in-person during the pandemic, I moved up to a 1 year old and then 2 year old classroom. Responsibilities included taking children out on community walks, guiding engagement in the Montessori classroom, potty-training, assisting in nap time, lunch and snack and documenting daily observations to share with parents. Now I am pursuing certification so I can teach in New York public schools!

My goal is to inspire children to discover where their own talents and passions lie. Inside of the classroom and out, I love working with kids, it comes naturally to me and I have a blast doing it.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I enjoy reading books with children and doing art and science projects. I love a good trip to the park and am athletic so outdoor time is always nice. I'm creative and like learning new things so am always coming up with different activities to engage the children under my care. This past year, I got really into sharing music with my students so I took up the ukulele and even started writing some of my own songs!
