About me
Hello! My name is Genevieve. I've just finished earning my graduate degree in Creative Writing at Columbia and now I'm excited to dive back into the nannying world while I figure out what's next!
I've worked extensively with kids throughout my teenage years and into adulthood. For several years in high school, I volunteered at the Association to Benefit Children, both at a drop-in Saturday daycare center and a preschool classroom in the summers. I helped with everything from mealtime to nap time to read aloud and field trips! I enjoyed it thoroughly and went on to work as a camp counselor there for two summers. I led a group of roughly fifteen eight to eleven year olds in full days of activities including crafts, sports, field trips, mealtime, park trips, and so much more.
When New York public schools went remote during covid, I nannied a second grader who was attending school fully remotely. It was so rewarding to be her buddy and help her have good days under such strange circumstances. In addition to helping her stay on top of her Zoom classes, I made sure she had healthy lunches, lots of time riding bikes and playing sports outside, and lots of pretend and board games for rainy days inside. Once she returned to school, I stayed on as her nanny for a while during my first year of grad school. I picked her up at school, took her to the park, the museum, and sometimes the ice cream truck!
During the second and third year of graduate school, I was awarded a teaching fellowship. I taught four semesters of University Writing, a required essay composition semester for Columbia freshmen. I really loved that position. It was an exciting challenge to develop my approach to teaching young adults in what was often their only seminar, drawing them out and getting them interested in the material. After teaching this class for the last time this past spring (sad!), I continued working for Columbia over the summer as a writing tutor for students and alumni applying to medical school.
I look forward to mobilizing these experiences to meet whatever childcare needs your family has. Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to being in touch!
