About me

I was raised in a lively and diverse suburb on Long Island, New York. I graduated from Hicksville Senior High School; I graduated in 2018 with an Advanced Regents Diploma. I’m currently a senior at the School of Visual Arts, where I’m pursuing a B.F.A in Film with a specification in Screenwriting. However, growing up around so many great kids, and working in childcare has made me realize I want to be a teacher. After I graduate with my bachelors, I will be looking into a graduate program where I will be certified in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.

I grew up with many younger cousins. They range, now, from infant age to 14. I’ve been babysitting them as young as 11. As I got older, I began babysitting for families other than my own. I started babysitting for my neighbors two boys, my sophomore year of high school. The oldest was nine when I started, and 11 when I finished; his little brother was six when I started and eight when I finished. I would get them off of the bus from school everyday, assist them with homework, and prep any dinner or made sure they had snacks. Some days I would have to take them to religious education class or would go pick them up from school. When they would finish their school work we would play outside, play video games, play make believe or watch a movie. The summers of 2018 and 2019 I worked at the Hicksville Summer Recreation Camp on Long Island. In 2018 I was a camp counselor for about 11 sixth graders. In 2019 I was a camp counselor for a combined group of about 30 fifth and sixth graders. This was both an indoor and outdoor day camp, so our daily schedule was very much a collaborative effort with the kids. We’d give them options of certain fields we could go to or games we could play, and they’d vote. We’d do crafts, science projects, play sports, and have dance parties. The summer of 2021 I worked at Syosset-Woodberry Summer Camp on Long Island this past summer. I was a camp counselor for about 60 nine and 10 year olds. This was a fully outdoor camp. The counselors fully organized every activity on their own for each group. At both camps I worked with children with ADHD, anxiety, and autism.

I’ve loved visual art since I was a kid, and was in advanced art in high school. I feel that crafts and other forms of art are ways of self expression that really help teach a child pride. My kids at camp loved making bracelets, rings and necklaces. They eventually turned it into a small business; I would encourage them by buying a few pieces every day.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to be an elementary school teacher with a few books out. Even though I now want to be a teacher, writing is still a big passion of mine that I will never give up.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love teaching and playing charades with kids. I feel that it's fun, fast paced, and gets your brain moving. It's also a great way to teach communication and listening skills.
