About me

My family consists of mostly women who were in different fields of childcare/education, teachers, professors, nannies, directors you name it! Which is where I think I get it from, the enjoyment of working with children. Though I had experience with tutoring through High School, I went off to Clark Atlanta University and pursued a degree in Business Administration. While away at college I also got involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters which is a mentoring program, where I mentored two young adolescents.

Upon returning to NY after college I got a job as a Paraprofessional at a special needs preschool. I worked with 4 different students as their 1:1 para guiding them through our class routines and helping them reach their IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) goals. Goals that consisted of cooperative play, communication and ADLs (Activities of Daily Living). I was then promoted to teachers assistant where I helped the classroom teacher with prepping for daily lessons in a classroom of 12.

The first family, that I worked with was for a set of twins. A boy and a girl, 7 years of age; who were both on the spectrum. My job during the weekday included transporting the children from the school bus to their residence, following afternoon routines of unpacking, snack/dinner, assistance with homework/tutoring and transporting the children to/from after school activities/appointments. On specified weekends I stayed with the children and made sure to continue our usual routines but also engaged the children in playtime activities such as painting/baking! I've also babysat for a family with one child, a boy 5 years old; who was also on the spectrum and legally blind. I worked with him a few hours per day until mom/dad returned from work. He also had similar afternoon routines but we focused on engaging in sensory, gross/fine motor skills; such as musical instruments, play dough and water play.

The proverb "It takes a village to raise a child", resonates with me because its not only a child's family who are responsible in raising them, but EVERYONE who comes in contact with them that makes up their community and their 'Team", is responsible to create a safe and healthy environment for them to grow and be the best that they can be.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

a first time homeowner and own at least 2-3 properties while simultaneously working with my nanny family!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Though as a teacher my main focus is Reading, Writing and sometimes Math, I love to teach a variety of things! Cooking, health, arts and crafts, foreign language, science and teaching about different cultures. Its very important to teach about different things so that, children grow up to not only be well rounded adults, but to also be independent and learn to exercise good judgment.
