About me

I grew up in a small community as the 6th child of 9 siblings. As a child I enjoyed eating fruits straight from the trees and playing baseball with my friends. My father passed away when I was 11 years old and from then on a lot of the responsibilities of taking care of my younger siblings fell on my shoulders as my mom had to work. That is where my nurturing nature began. I worked in a daycare facility after I graduated from high school for about 3 years and after working in offices for a while, I came to the United States and jumped at the opportunity to continue working with kids.

That was 22 years ago and I have been a nanny ever since. I have worked with newborns and toddlers to teenagers. My most recent job lasted for 13 years. I took care of the kids as newborns to ages 13 and 10. I did everything! Bottle feeding, cooking and pureeing food when babies started taking solids, and cooking finger food as they got older. I played with the babies on the floor and then at the park as they got older. I took the kids to school and picked them up from school and played with them or took them to after school activities. I made dinner, gave them baths and on many occasions put them to bed. I also took care of them overnight when both parents were traveling. A big part of my after school responsibility was homework help and making sure each child had completed his/her homework. The thing that motivated me to pursue childcare is that it is a rewarding job. I get to see firsthand how the kids learning and development and how they flourish under my care.

I love drawing and doing puzzles so I get just as excited as the kids that I am taking care of when its time to do arts projects or just simply color in a coloring book. I think the interest that I take in the kids playtime is a strong motivation for them to do the same. I think that play is a way of learning for children and it should be encouraged.
