About me

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri as the second oldest. I have 4 sisters and one brother and am now an aunt of 9 beautiful nieces and nephews! Growing up, I enjoyed all types of activities, but I was always most interested in doing anything that involved being social and hanging with my sibling or my childhood friends. We loved playing all types of outdoor games like jump rope, basketball, tag/freeze, hand games, etc. I also LOVED Frisbee and playing with cool yo-yo's. So much so, I went and purchased a yoyo about a month ago just to relive my old memories! I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in counseling. I currently work for Chicago Public Schools as a STLS Advocate which stands for students in temporary living situations, where I advocate for families of the students at my specific school to have resources they need at home to maintain focus at the school. I have been working with children closely since 2014 and I keep finding new pathways to explore when it involves making a positive impact in their lives.

When I started in 2014, I first worked in the infant rooms as an assistant teacher. I stayed in early childhood education for 4 years and left as a lead teacher of an infant room. I have worked professionally with infants as young as 5 weeks old up to toddlers that are 3 years old. I then moved to Chicago to work for AmeriCorps, placing me in an elementary school which I worked with students as young as preschool up to 8th grade students. When working in early childhood education, I made bottles, fed children, updated daily tracker sheets that logged nap and feeding times as well as any updates on what we worked on via the lesson plans I created for each student curated to each specific child. I also put children to sleep, had parent conferences updating parents on if their child was progressing properly to move up to their next classroom. I cleaned the rooms hourly making sure they were constantly sanitized throughout the day this included sanitizing toys and bedding that had to be changed and washed. With the older students, I did ELA tutoring, created lesson plans for them and facilitated 30 minute small group lessons for focus groups.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to be a year out of school after getting my bachelors in counseling. I want to be working in the schools as a youth counselor and building new relationships with students.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to share musical interests as well as anything artistic. I enjoy a good story and sharing old fables and movies that go along with them. And I love sharing fun hand games and cool toys that I used when I was younger.
