About me
My name is Jayda Tatum. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I grew up as an only child, which gave me the opportunity to enjoy my own company! As a kid I really enjoyed dancing, imaginary play with my dolls and outdoor adventures. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of being a leader and caring for those that are younger than me. My eagerness to be a role model for a younger generation is what led me to my decisions today. I am currently a college student, majoring in Early Childhood Education. While at school I am working towards gaining more childcare experience, which has included being a nanny and substitute teacher. Being in school has allowed me to become more knowledgeable about the development of children. Having this new knowledge has allowed me to become a better childcare provider for the children I work with.
During my high school years I became certain that children were my passion. In my junior year I acquired a full time weekend nanny position in which I became the primary care taker for a 1 year old baby girl . I would pick her up on Friday’s and watch her through the weekend. We would engage in outdoor activities such as trips to the museum, park, and ice cream shops when the weather permitted. While indoors we would do arts and craft, dance, and practice letters. I would feed her, change her diapers while she transitioned to becoming potty trained, and ensure her safety. I was her nanny for 3 years and I loved every second of it. I later began working at an early childhood center where I started out as an after school teacher. I assisted with the pickup of the children from their schools Upon our arrival back to the facility I would help each child with their homework. I assisted with meal preparation, light classroom cleanup , and engaging my kids in fun yet educational activities. As time progressed, I grew within the company and became a teachers assistant for a pre-k classroom where I cared for children ages 3-5 years old. As an assistant I worked alongside another teacher to help with meal preparation, classroom cleanup, engaging children in arts and crafts, outdoor play cooperative play, and imaginary play. We worked together to create a nurturing and energetic environment that allowed children to feel comfortable and excited to learn each day .
The concept of “it takes a village to raise a child“ really resonates with me. I feel that it goes beyond family and friends. Teachers and care givers play a major role in that village. As providers for the little ones, we spend an abundance of time with them which grants us the opportunity to learn with them, grow with them, teach them and mold them. Constantly being mindful of the role you play in each child’s life and finding new ways to become a better version of you is essential as a caregiver. I yearn to be a role model, a confidant, a leader, and someone the child can depend on through every situation. Working with children is my passion and I look forward to continuing to grow and become more knowledgeable in the childcare field! It brings me joy to make a difference.
