About me

My name is Olivia and I grew up in Sag Harbor, New York. I am a recent 2021 graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University, where I majored in American Studies and minored in dance. I plan to go to graduate school in the fall of 2024 for education. As a child, I loved stories, magic, and the imagination, so I was very creative and adventurous with my time. Today, I channel my creativity into dance, drawing, and writing. When working with kids, I love to facilitate art projects, emphasizing creative outlets and expression. I balance having fun with responsibility and professionalism, making sure to set boundaries.
I worked as a camp counselor in the summers of 2016 through 2018. I was responsible for managing a group of about 20 kids (ages 5-8), with two other co-counselors, and supervising their activities. I have also been an after-school and nighttime babysitter for over ten families during my last 2 years of high school and over my last 4 years of college. I was an active member of Barnard Babysitters, a babysitting program at my college. I babysat each semester for multiple families, usually involving school pick-up, supervising kids at their activities (often dance, gymnastics, and sports), helping with homework, dinner prep, and putting them to bed. I have developed strong time management skills and demonstrated reliability. This past summer (2021) I worked as a full-time nanny for a 2-year-old boy, assisting the family both at home and while traveling. Through this position I became familiar with the Montessori method. With each family I've worked with, I have loved getting to know the kids well and supporting their hobbies and interests. I am also a part-time prevention education specialist with The Retreat where I work with middle and high schoolers, teaching them about healthy relationships and facilitating activities during live sessions.
My approach to working with children is very much rooted in supporting them emotionally as they navigate the world and discover what they are interested in, while being proactive and responsible in all types of situations. I am very organized by nature, and don't mind extra housekeeping and tidying up!
