About me

My name is Jack Alberts and I grew up in Highland Park, Illinois. Ever since I graduated from University of Michigan in 2019, I have been in New York City. When I babysit kids, I always encourage them to use their imagination, everyone has one, and use their creativity to further their developments into becoming comfortable and engaged human beings. I am not a fan of how much time kids have to spend on their smart devices as I argue it harms their growth for reaching their potential.
In the summer of 2017, I officially began my career in child care. I was heading into my Junior year of college and I was looking for work. I heard about two local Chicago families in need of a babysitter and I knew that it was the perfect job for me. So, in June of 2017, I began to babysit for these two families in need. One family had one daughter and the other had two daughters and a son. I began working with these kids during the weekday afternoons and weekend days and nights during the summer. The daughter in the first family was 10 when I started and the kids in the second family were ages 11, 9, and 7 when I began. I had mostly the same responsibilities for both families. I would work for one family per day, usually alternating during the summer depending on the need of assistance during that particular week. I would pick the kids up from their daily activities, usually camp, bring them home, and hang out with them until their parents came back from work. When September rolled around and they went back to school, I helped each family over the weekends and some weekdays during early evenings and at night. Some weekends and weeks would be spent with just one of the families and occasionally some weeks would be mixed and I would work for both families. Combining the weeks with both households was never a problem and I always found a way to make it work. I had a special connection with each of the 4 kids I looked after. I worked for each of these families from June of 2017 to June of 2019. During these two years, the summer schedules and school year schedules remained the same throughout. What started as a temporary job became a two year journey that I am forever grateful for and appreciative of. I moved to NYC in July of 2019 and began working for a family with two kids. The kids were ages 9 and 11. I would pick them up from school, walk them home and either make them or pick them up food. I helped them with their homework, would talk to them about school and would play games with them that kept them active and challenged them to use their imaginations. I also looked after the family dog and would often walk her and feed her. I love all animals and would be willing to look after any pet! To this day, I am working for this NYC family and am trying to expand my babysitting network. Additionally, I can swim, have a valid driver's license and have a 1 year Provisional Certification for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED.
As I stated before, I am extremely passionate and serious about having a hand in the growth of a child. Smart Sitting is very focused on baby-sitters being more than just standard sitters and I truly connect and wholeheartedly agree with this philosophy. I am not just a sitter who will neutrally engage with your child. I will not be one of those sitters who reaches for the bare minimum, accepts a paycheck and moves on. I care about the development and growth of children and I understand the heavy influence in which a sitter has in that journey. I will not only help look after your child, but I promise that I will have a positive impact on their progression in their young life! I will push them to play games that get them on their feet and that encourage them to use their creativity, their imaginations and their social skills. I will help them with any homework or life problem that they need help with, but when it comes time for relaxation, I will attempt to inspire them to not sit on their tech devices. I truly believe in the power of creative real-world engagements and I make sure to assimilate that into a daily routine with the kids I work with.
