About me

My name is Michelle and I was born and raised in Hazlet, NJ. I am twenty-four years old, turning twenty-five next month. I have one brother who is two years older than I am. As a child I had a ginormous imagination and loved playing outdoors and spending long summer days at our local pool club or the beach. I graduated from Georgian Court University, May 2020, with a bachelors degree in psychology. I currently work in an Autism classroom, with the most wonderful and unique students. Within all of my different career paths, it’s always lead me to working with children, and as as my family tells me, I am "truly meant to work with children”.

I have been working with children for over 7 years but it feels like a lifetime. Throughout my positions in childcare settings, I've worked with toddlers and preschoolers and occasionally infants. I landed my first part time babysitting position for a family who had a 5 month old and a toddler, who I babysat for 4 summers in a row, and occasional date nights. These children are now 5 and 7 years old. My most recent nanny position was full time for two young boys who are now 6 and almost 8 years old.

“You have such a motherly instinct” is something I’ve been told by family, friends, and families I’ve babysat for, as I always care for each child as if they were my own. I love being able to connect with the children and the families I work with and allow them to see how trusting and comfortable they should feel when I’m with their child. I love being active and adventurous, doing fun and creative activities, and showing each child that I care for them and love them! A philosophy I follow when working with children is to try and understand them first. Some children, especially those on the younger side, may not always be able to express themselves verbally, or in the ways we expect them to, so it’s important to be patient, calm, and understanding and try to understand what the child is feeling and trying to express. I have a strong passion to work with children and make a difference in their lives.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

As cheesy as it may sound, I hope to be engaged or married, and to own a home.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to teach social skills. This is something I have really began to love throughout my current position as a SPED paraprofessional. We teach social skills to our students. For example, “how we should respond to a person when they act how we are feeling today”. We have students with differences, some verbal, nonverbal, or some students who just need the extra help understanding social norms. As for little ones, I love working on the basics of education. Colors, numbers, alphabet, listening to music, arts and crafts, etc.
