About me

I grew up in Queens, New York. I am fourth of five children and I inherited my mother's love of all things craft related. I'm an experienced knitter and I love arts and crafts!
After High School, I went to school for Court Stenography. I worked as a Freelance Transcriber and Stenographer for two years before taking a job with the United States Postal Service. I worked there for 10 years but ultimately it wasn't for me. I then became a full-time foster parent, and I've continued to be a foster parent for the past fourteen years. I take care of children from birth to 13 years of age, and I absolutely love it.
I began babysitting in high school for children from 3-6 years old. Those duties included picking them up from daycare, changing diapers, giving snacks and keeping them safe. After high school, I became a homework helper and tutor for kids 6-8 years old. I helped them with their homework, Reading, math and test preparation. I'm pleased to say the majority showed improvement in school.
I have been a foster parent for the last fourteen years to present, and I've cared for over 80 children from infancy to 13 years of age. I have experience caring for children with various behaviors and illnesses e.g. Sickle cell anemia, asthma, allergies, ADD, ADHD, ODD and autism. I have learned that no matter what obstacles a child may have to overcome, that with patience, consistency and love all children can learn and strive. I try to find creative approaches to learning and devise a plan that's right for each child. Although the needs of each child varies, I change diapers, prepare and feed meals, read to and teach to read and put down for naps and bedtime. I take them to parks and museums and try to introduce new things.
I believe learning starts at birth and the first five years are vital to building a strong foundation for life.
