About me

My name is Lucia and I am originally from Rhode Island and I moved to Newton MA when I was 12. I am the youngest of 4 and I am very close with my siblings so I know the sibling dynamic very well! Growing up I loved arts and crafts and have always been a huge fan of American Girl Dolls (that's how I learned to braid hair!). I graduated from Newton South High School in 2020 and am now pursuing a degree in Social Work at Providence College. I have always had a passion for helping others which has led me down the social work path and connects to the kids that I have taken care of in the past. My social work studies have already shown me so many ways to adapt to different lifestyles and child behaviors that I love bringing into any home.
I have been babysitting for the past six years with many different families. One family I worked with had two children. I would typically care for them during parent date nights. I was responsible for giving them dinner and clean up, as well as play time, and being safe during different activities. It was also important that I helped the kids follow their night time routine like brushing teeth, using the bathroom, and reading books before putting the children to bed. I was also a part time babysitter/ mothers helper for a family with two very young children, a young boy (started when he was a year and ended when he was 3) and his infant sister (I started watching her around 4 months old until around a year). When I was with the children I was playing with them and feeding them as well as keeping them safe. At night I was also responsible for giving them baths and putting the boy to bed as well as changing the girl's diapers and giving her a bottle.
My hobbies include drawing, painting my nails, and anything artsy! I have been able to bring my love of arts and crafts into childcare positions because I find it is an incredible way to get children's minds looking at things from a different perspective. I also find that my love of children stems from my own child-like personality and my ability to appreciate their contributions. Far too often children's voices are overlooked and underrepresented, something that needs to change.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to be graduating from a master program with a degree in social work. I am looking forward to starting a career in the field potentially in child protective services or in a way where I can advocate for children’s rights.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am passionate about art, especially nail art, and I would love to share that passion with the children I take care of. I have also participated in things like inktober where you draw in pen everyday throughout the month of October. I think teaching the arts to children is critical in allowing them to use their imagination. I am also a lover of legos and the endless hours of fun they can bring and I sang in high school and have found that there is never a time where a little music can’t help!
