About me

My name is Savannah Moon (preferred name Moon), I have 10 years of experience caring for children. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Illinois at Chicago and am pursuing a master's in conflict management and peacekeeping and a Ph.D. in anthropology in the coming year. I value school and education greatly as such I am also able to provide some tutoring or homework assistance to children. I worked for a brief time as a sex-ed teacher for highschoolers and started an organization for community education and engagement around sex ed, women's health, gender, and sexuality. I now consult for schools in developing their sex-ed programs for elementary, middle, and high school curriculum. I am experienced with all ages from infants to adolescents. My experience in childcare began at the age of eleven when I first began to care for children outside of my own family. I am the eldest of all my cousins and I have a younger sister who I cared for throughout my childhood.
I love children and have a deep dedication to child-rearing and school. I have worked in the medical field and in childcare and maintain a love for caregiving in my everyday life. Cooking is also one of my passions, I often serve as a cook as well as a childcare provider for the families I work with. Throughout the jobs I've held I have helped with a variety of tasks such as Errands, pets, Homework, and Housework.
I enjoy engaging with children in hands-on learning such as cooking, outdoor time, and arts and crafts. I value structure and I respect the structures and routines of the families I work with; I believe consistency and imagination are equally important for childhood development. Throughout my childhood from kindergarten to highschool I attended Waldorf schools, the curriculum is very hands-on and values creativity, art, storytelling, friendship and engagement, and teaching the whole mind of the child. I practice many of these elements in my work such as free play, negotiation over punishment, educational learning, compassion, and fun in my work!
