About me
Hello! I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, but spent the last ten years of my life in Portland, Oregon, which I consider to be my home. I have one younger brother and as a child I loved to dance, explore and play with music, and be outside. I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree from the Education foundations program, which focused on equitable elementary education. Since then, I have done a variety of childcare and education related work in Oregon until two months ago when I moved to New York to start a Masters degree in English education from Teachers College, at Columbia University.
My experience with childcare and education related work is vast. After college, I was a nanny and personal assistant for the CEO of Blue Star Press where my responsibilities included, but were not limited to, pick up and drop off to and from school, homework help, meal preparation, cleaning, and office administration work. I have also substitute taught in five different school districts in the Portland Metro Area for kids in grades K-12 as well as taught high school English. For the past two years, I had been working alongside neurodivergent youth, ages 9-20, to support them in school and life as a Behavioral Therapist. I loved this work because I got to transition from large class sizes to one on one work, where I could develop close relationships with the youth and their families
My work has always been centered at the intersection of youth advocacy and care. In my free time, I am a DJ and work in audio production. Pre pandemic, I started a program called Young Audio Makers (YAMs) that brought professional training in audio production, broadcast engineering, and podcasting to youth and schools in the Portland Metro Area. YAMS is directly tied to my mission as it creates a platform for youth to be supported in sharing what is meaningful to them. As an educator and childcare worker, these values are at the center of my pedagogy and my approach to this work. I see children as co-collaborators in building our future and I feel lucky to be able to have created relationships and worked alongside so many over the past ten years.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
- Multiples
- Special Needs
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Working with youth in my different capacities! I hope to be a classroom teacher that is specifically able to foster a learning environment that works and serves a wide range of youth, including youth who are neurodivergent. I also hope to be able provide DJ education to many more people (kids included!) who may have previously thought that DJing wasn't for them.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
Beyond DJing, I love to work and be with kids outside. I home-schooled a first and third grader throughout 2020 and loved to teach science using the environment around us! I also love doing art with youth and have had so much fun in my past making miniature museums, collages, community art maps, and many other projects!
