About me

I grew up in the cornfields of Ohio. As a middle child with 4 siblings, I fell in love with childcare when I was scarcely more than a child myself. When I was not babysitting or volunteering in the nursery, I could be found on the stage. I had a calling in public speaking and musical theater and went on to several national contests. After attending college and volunteering with several non-profits, I found that my true passion led right back to where it all started -- childcare and education.

I attended the University of Kentucky for two years; I am now finishing my last year of my bachelor’s degree in Disability Studies. My degree focus is in Interdisciplinary Studies, meaning I have taken courses from each concentration (Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities; Autism Spectrum Disorder; Mental/Behavioral Health). After I finish my bachelor’s degree, I plan to get a master’s degree in Museum Education.

I have been in NYC for almost four years now, working as a nanny and babysitter in neighborhoods across the city. I have also had the pleasure of being a reading/writing tutor through the Department of Education for kindergarten through second grade students. I taught for a year back in Kentucky as an assistant toddler teacher and taught for six months as a lead infant teacher here in NYC. I’m well-versed in navigating the city transit system with every age from infants to school-aged children. I’ve worked a variety of schedules, from working nine hours a day, M-F, to providing after school care, to providing consistent special event care.

I have training in child-led and Montessori-style learning. I am certified in Infant and Child CPR/AED/First-Aid, as well as preventing SIDS and infant head trauma. I am also Epi-Pen/Anaphylaxis Awareness trained and certified through the Red Cross. My experience ranges from sleep-training infants to potty-training toddlers to people-training teenagers.

My core belief in childcare is a better world begins with us and what we offer our children today. It is my passion and thankfully for me, my job, to offer the most loving, patient care a child could ever have outside of their family.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

working with an NYC cultural institution (museum, zoo, etc) to make their programming more accessible to children and adults with disabilities!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

going outside, reading, painting, speaking French, learning American Sign Language, reading and writing stories. Part of what is so fun about me is my experiences and interests are so very diverse. I am just as happy kicking a soccer ball around and incorporating lessons through outdoor play as I am working with a more arts-and-reading-oriented schedule. My diverse interests help me to simultaneously educate and entertain children, helping them bloom into well-rounded individuals.
