About me

I was born in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre and lived there until the age of 14. I grew up with my two sisters and my mom. I am the oldest so as young as I can remember I had responsibilities to keep my sisters safe, play with them, help them with homework, cook, and care for them if my mom was not around. We came to the United States in 1986 where we first lived in Eldorado, AR for three years before moving to Jersey City, NJ to finish High School. I graduated with honors with a focus in Administrative Skills. My first job was with a painting company in Jersey City where I kept track of orders, answered phones, and kept the books in order. I was there for a year before I went on to a wireless company, where I learned new technical skills. I stayed at this company for 11 years until I became pregnant with my daughter. After she was born, we moved to Astoria, NY and I decided to be a stay at home mom until my second child (a son) was old enough to go to school. At that time, I did organizing and home-staging jobs on the side for friends since keeping things in order is one of my strengths.

As my kids got older I realized that I really enjoyed being with young children. A local mom from Astoria asked if I would watch her daughter so she could go to school during the day. I took the job and from that time on I decided I wanted to pursue a career as a nanny. I fell in love with helping to raise children (from babies to toddlers and through early childhood) and was very passionate about working as a nanny.
Children are silly, fun, happy, and while they keep you on your toes, watching them is so worth it. Throughout my years as a nanny, I have experienced that every child is unique. Some learn to crawl and/or walk early. Others learn the alphabet faster than their peers. Sometimes they learn their numbers and colors at different times, but no matter in what order they learn them, each child will hit their milestones at their own pace. All of the kids I have had the privilege to take care of were ready to go to school by the time they were three years old with some even as young as two!

In 5 years I hope to be working as a nanny still because I love caring for and making kids happy and helping the parents in each family that I support become successful.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am very hands-on with all of the kids I have taking care of so I plan my day in advance. If it is a rainy day, I will concentrate on activities like painting, drawing, play-doh or clay, LEGOs/blocks, puzzles, and matching. All of these activities help with their motor skills, help them learn patience, and to identify what similarities in colors, pictures, letters or numbers. If the day is sunny, we will go outside and explore nature (rocks, leaves, flowers, birds) and I will teach them about the seasons of the year. This way they will learn that the Planet they live on has different seasons and different types of weather. I also enjoy teaching them about the Holidays of the year like Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving etc. It is also very important for kids to burn energy so going to the park to exercise is a must. They are so full of life so burning all that energy is healthy and helps to keep a kid happy. Parks help children with developing motor skills and to learn sports like soccer, basketball, etc. Having one-on-one playtime is also extremely important as it helps kids learn to share, and develop patience. I try to build some version of all of these activities for the children into each day.
