About me

I am from Ambato a city in Ecuador, I lived there until I was 14 years old, I grew up with my mother and my two older brothers, I had a good and happy childhood with my family, my mom always encouraged good manners, values, kindness, gratitude, honesty, and strived for each of us to care for everyone without seeing differences of skin color or ethnicities. I came to the United States when I was 15 years old where I continued my education in Flushing High School in Queens NY I graduated in 1998. After I graduated from highschool I worked as a waitress in a local restaurant as well as in McDonald’s but I wasn’t comfortable nor happy in that type of field. So I decided to get certified as a HHA (Home health aide) but I wasn’t completely comfortable working there. My friend Irma was working as a babysitter and she asked me if I was able to cover for her during her vacation and I accepted since then I've been working as a caregiver with private families and also as a teacher assistant in a daycare.

I started babysitting 20 years ago with a toddler. Jack was 2 years old. He was a sweet and playful boy, we used to go to the park everyday to build sand castles and build train tracks to play with Thomas the train, his favorite toy. When we got back inside I prepared his lunch and he took his nap afterwards, the family grew when they had a baby girl. I took care of Blanca for several months, I changed her diapers, fed her solids, and her mom breastfed her. I moved to live in Florida with my husband. After a couple of months of class with Florida Department Children’s and families I got certified in Early Literacy. I began to work in a daycare, at first I was a floater from infants to pre-k, after a couple of months I was officially in charge of the 2 years old classroom. I had ten kids under my supervision, some kids were potty trained, some were learning to use the bathroom, we had story time, singing, dancing and educational time too. Then I mastered my own kids and we moved back to New York. I spent a little more than a year at home with my kids because I didn’t want to miss those first words or steps which is extremely exciting. Eventually I had to return to work so I began to look for a job and I met the Carillo/ Miller’s family. I took care of Rafael when he was an infant, took him for walks, changed his diapers and he was getting older making his lunch and dinner, planning all his activities, reading and playing. I worked with them for 4 years. Sadly I had to part ways with them because the family was planning on moving, I was again on the search for a new job. In 2014 I met the most wonderful family I have ever met before. I started to take care for a baby boy of 5 months, Kaeden and I would just to go for stroll, read, sing to him, change his diapers and prepare his bottles as he got older child care is different I would play, prepare healthy meals, soon the family had their second child Sienna. I was fully in charge of both kids and all their needs, two years later the family had their third child Yasmin and I was only able to take care of her for a couple of months because the family moved back to their country. During my experience I have archived lot of knowledge about kids and their behavior also I am certified in Parenting Skills for the Homemaker; Certificate of Achievement, Child Abuse & Neglect; Certificate of Achievement, Professionalism & Work Ethic; Certificate of Achievement, Child Development; Certificate of Achievement, Stress Management skills for the Homemaker, and Emigrant Home and Health Aide Training.
Working with children is definitely rewarding. Most children and young people have a natural curiosity, a sense of wonder and enthusiasm for play and learning, which has a positive effect on all those who work with them. Equally, they need to be encouraged and supported by people who bring the same enthusiasm to these experiences as they have. In addition, childcare workers need to have good interpersonal skills, such as patience, a friendly manner, and the ability to communicate with children, young people, colleagues and other adults such as parents and carers.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to be still helping families raise wonderful children. I also wish to keep learning new techniques and perfect the ones I already know, I want to be able to innovate and learned as much as I teach the families I worked for throughout the years.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I’ve worked with kids so many years now. I teach my kids arts and crafts. Also love baking with them. Teach them to have to build self confidence, to have good manners and be respectful.
