About me
I was born in Mountain View, CA and grew up attending international schools in the Bay Area. I spoke French and Chinese at home with my immigrant parents and little sister. As I grew out of my shell of timidity as a kid, I started to fall in love with the performing arts! I went on to major in acting and political science, and minor in dance and musical theatre, receiving my BFA and BA in May of last year from Boston University.
While in college, I worked summers at the YMCA as a Day Camp Leader for for kids between the ages of 3 and 16 years old. There, I had the responsibility of leading campers in fun and educational activities, improvising daily schedules, and supervising large groups of children on field trips, playgrounds, and at the swimming pool. It was also with the YMCA that I got pediatric First Aid and CPR certified. I have also worked as a babysitter for various families, including nannying a family with four kids (ages: 4, 5, 10, 11) where I worked full-time this past fall. I made them lunch everyday, took them out for walks with their dog, came up with fun outdoor activities in their backyard, and guided the three older siblings in online schooling. I also implemented a preschool curriculum for the 4-year-old since she wasn’t in school, by coming up with creative scholastic activities that were tailored to her at her level of proficiency. Over the years, I have also tutored grammar school students and high schoolers in various subjects including math, English, science, history, and foreign languages such as Mandarin Chinese and French.
I believe that joy and creative play are some of the greatest gifts children constantly bring to our world. Time and time again, I find myself in awe at the level of freedom and play children will give themselves no matter the circumstances. They inspire me to be a better person, and I'm always trying to return the favor by showing them the power of compassion, and always valuing open communication and transparency. There is always a way make education fun, and I find that all it takes is some engaged listening to see the answers right before us when it comes to tapping into kid's imaginations and curiosity!
