About me

I grew up as the oldest child of 3, and definitely had some responsibility raising my siblings, and babysitting most of the children on the street I grew up with for extra cash when I was a kid/pre-teen. I loved dancing, theater and figure skating, and I always loved babysitting and working with kids.
By the time I was 13, I was volunteering for the Chicago Park District as a Junior Counselor every summer until I was old enough to work. As soon as I turned 16, I applied to work at the Chicago Park District and loved my job. I started off as a recreation leader, and moved up to instructor. A recreation leader is basically a counselor year round, someone to help around the park wherever needed and assist the instructors, and instructors are those who actually teach the classes lead at the park district. I moved around a few different park districts based on who needed help at what time. I was also a contracted worker with a company called Chicago Loves Dance during that time, and went to teach the same classes I was teaching at the park (dance, musical theater and tumbling, things I grew up doing and absolutely loved) at private schools around the Chicagoland area.
Once I was in college full time, I realized that I wanted to work in pediatric healthcare. I stopped working for the park district when I was 21, but I still babysat the entire time. I even nannied for a family I have an amazing relationship with, and have had the beautiful opportunity of watching their twin girls grow from tiny babies to the strong, smart, awesome 6 year old girls they are today. I was even lucky enough to accompany them on trips out of the country to help them with their kids while they went to their family's parties and weddings.
I've been taking nursing classes for a while, but due to some financial setbacks I went and got a degree as a Paramedic at Malcom X college in Chicago, and worked in an ER setting for a year and a half until I went on leave during the COVID-19 pandemic. As much as I wanted to stay on the healthcare frontlines, I have asthma and I wouldn't be able to help others if something happened to me.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am a classically and jazz professionally trained piano player, I've been receiving lessons since I was 5, through college and I still take lessons to keep fresh. I also dance and sing and have done so professionally. I love sharing my love of the arts with children. I love watching them learn something and realize they love it for the first time. That is why I have always taught dance- to remember why I loved it. Seeing something through a child's eyes for the first time and watching them light up and find a new passion can really help you realize why you love what you do and why what you do is so special. I love sharing fun arts and movement activities with kids- I love making their day special.
